COURSE PRE-REQUISTES:

COURSE DESCRIPTION: A comprehensive exposure to the fluid power field, ranging from historical information to details on the design and operation of hydraulic and pneumatic components, circuits, and systems.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Identify the major parts of a hydraulic/pneumatic system.
  • Describe the functions and operations of a fluid power system.
  • Define various relative equations for system computational usage.
  • Design and implement various systems using common components.
  • Troubleshoot fluid power systems.

Textbooks: Fliud Power, Daines(ISBN 978-1-60525-081-6)

LEARNING METHODS: Lecture, PowerPoints, and Laboratory

STUDENTS PERFORMANCE ACTIVITIES: Problems will be assigned at the end of each chapter. They are required, and will aid in preparing for the exams. All submitted class documentationis to follow this format:

  • Problems/Work as assigned

GRADING SYSTEM AND SCALE:

  • Exams will total = 50%90% - 100% = A
  • Lab / Homework Assignments = 30%80% - 89% = B
  • Homework Assignments = 20%70% - 79% = C
  • Total Grade: = 100 % 60% - 69% = D

Below 60% = F

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Class attendance and participation is essential in order to achieve a level of understanding that will contribute to the comprehension of the subject material. For unattended classes, the student is responsible for collecting the material covered from fellow students.

MAKE-UPS: All missed exams can only be made up the week before final exams. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule the test, which is to be taken outside of regular class time. All lab sheets and/or homework assignments are due one week after the date assigned, a maximum of a “B” grading scale will be given to labs turned in after that time period.

CLASSROOM RESPONSIBILITIES: Open and mutually respectful communication of varied opinions, beliefs, and perspectives during classroom or online discussion encourages the free exchange of ideas that is essential to higher learning and to the ability to learn from each other.

In order to allow everyone to participate in lecture sessions, one person should speak at a time. The use of pagers or telephonesin theclassroom is prohibited and all such devices should be silenced!

Desk/Lab Area must be cleaned,materials put away, and equipment turned off at the end of each session. Two Point curve to those that follow instructions, class participation grade.

COURSEWITHDRAWAL: The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed 3/4 the duration of any class. Check the TCC Academic Calendar for the deadline that applies to the course(s). Begin the process with a discussion with the faculty member assigned to the course. Contact the Advisement Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course ('W' grade) or to change from Credit to Audit. Withdrawal and/or change to an audit from a course after the drop/add period can alter the financial aid award for the current and future semesters. Students may receive an outstanding bill from TCC if the recalculation leaves a balance due to TCC. Students who stop participating in the course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of “F,” which may have financial aid consequences for the student.

  • Email communications: All TCC students receive a designated “MyTCC” email address (ex: ). Communications to you about TCC and course assignments will be sent to your MyTCC email address and/or email address on record with instructor.   • Inclement Weather: TCC rarely closes. If extreme weather conditions or emergency situations arise, TCC always gives cancellation notices to radio and television stations. This information is also posted on the TCC website (

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Academic dishonesty (cheating) is defined as the deception of others about one’s own work or about the work of another. Academic dishonesty or misconduct is not condoned or tolerated at campuses within the Tulsa Community College system. Tulsa Community College adopts a policy delegating certain forms of authority for disciplinary action to the faculty. Such disciplinary actions delegated to the faculty include, but are not limited to, the dismissal of disrespectful or disorderly students from classes. In the case of academic dishonesty a faculty member may:

  • Require the student to redo an assignment or test, or require the student to complete a substitute assignment or test;
  • Record a "zero" for the assignment or test in question;
  • Recommend to the student that the student withdraw from the class, or administratively withdraw the student from the class;
  • Record a grade of "F" for the student at the end of the semester.
