Huzzah to Joey for being kind all week!

Hooplah to Veronica for bringing Dr. Shen last night!

One Campus, One Book

  • Came to talk about bringing people together through this event. They chose “Time to Start Thinking”.
  • Had feedback from administration and faculty.
  • Program has a good foundation, but they want to focus more on student support.
  • Future Plans: Creating an Exec – Programming, Publicity, and Development committees. Start within SGA and want CAC to start this as an event.
  • Conversation - CAC’s feedback:
  • Delaney – Who has power over choosing the book?
  • A committee would choose the book, but President Boren would need to approve of the book, as well.
  • Robin – What other universities?
  • University of Illinois – there are two different models
  • Robin – How many books did you sell?
  • Bought 500 books and sold 300.
  • Layne – Where do you see it fitting in CAC? Would you rather CAC take this all on?
  • They could see it as an event, but it could be a part of Speakers Bureau. They believe that the continuity of the event would be better in CAC.
  • Joey – Would you rather it be its own event or as a smaller event in OCF?
  • Would rather be its own event.
  • Breanna – With the book, what was the time frame of the event and the committee?
  • Divided the chapters by different weeks. The book that they had selected was talked about throughout the span of 7 weeks.
  • Kolbi – Who can come in and help this to become a CAC event since y’all are graduating?
  • They are currently talking to people about this.
  • Delaney – Who else have you approached about this event?
  • They have not approached anyone else about this event/organization.
  • Chloe – Have you had this conversation with the LD&V Office?
  • They hadn’t thought about this because their books focus on leadership development.
  • CAC Discussion
  • Delaney – I do not think that we could immediately make it an event, but we could put it somewhere else.
  • Breanna – Making it a part of Speakers Bureau or OCF. The workload might be different if you have a committee.
  • Kelsey – Concern about the type of book that they select.
  • MaKenna – They think it is an event that would take a long time, but it could a committee from one event. I don’t see it as an event.
  • Delaney – It will be hard to find a book that goes after CAC’s mission and that appeals to students.
  • Robin – I like having more faculty support in CAC.
  • Kolbi – Could this go with Community Service Coordinator?
  • Quy – Would this be something that anyone on your committees would want to do?
  • John – It would feel like more homework.
  • Jacob – The group of people that should have been buying in, were not. So it will be hard to make other people buy into it.
  • Jordan – Harder to sell to people if they do not want to read a book about politics.
  • Kelsey – It may reach a group of students that we want to reach.
  • Emily – She is a fan of it, but the Honors College does do reading groups, so who would we market to if people are getting their fill in other places.
  • Jessica – Are we at a stage to add another event? Or should we add it into a mix?
  • Robin – Loves the idea of having a book to read with your committees (a point that Breanna made).
  • Ann – This would help students to read books that would allow the Chair to pour into them through leadership development.

Voting

  • Ball Pit in the CAC Office
  • Make the ball pit remain in the CAC office permanently.
