"HUMANISM AND EDUCATION"

Larry Yarber

"And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou riseth up" (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).

This article, and those to follow on "Humanism and Education", is in no way intended to be an indictment against public education as a whole, or against its educators. We hope it will not be received in this manner. Christianity is itself a taught religion (John 6:44-45). It is however, an indictment against that which is falsely perpetrated as knowledge, in the guise of education.

Paul warned the young evangelist Timothy, "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science ("... knowledge ...” VINE, pg. 550 - LY) falsely so called:" (1st Timothy 6:20). And, to the Colossians he penned, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the traditions of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ" (Colossians 2:8). There are many profane and vain babblings, many philosophies of men, which have nothing to do with education and are in direct opposition to true knowledge; which are being set before a captive audience in the personage of our children, almost on a daily basis. It is to these "Humanistic" theories and falsehoods that we object, and encourage one and all to avoid.

The following evidence should enlighten and educate us to "Humanism's" attempt to undermine and control our public educational systems. "We must extend participatory democracy ... to ... the school ..." "The conditions of ... education, ... should be humanized. Alienating forces should be modified or eradicated ..." (Humanist Manifesto's I and II, Prometheus Books, 1973). "Education is thus a most powerful ally of Humanism, and every American public school is a school of Humanism" (Charles Francis Potter, Humanism: A New Religion (New York: Simon and Schuster, 1930) P. 128). Both, Charles Francis Potter and John Dewey, "the father of progressive education", was humanist. They both signed Humanist Manifesto I (Humanist Manifesto's I and II, Prometheus Books, 1973). John Dewey ... proposed that what was needed, was a reconstruction of philosophy, ... and most important of all, of education. ... Dewey was convinced that traditional religious beliefs, ... actually interfered with men taking seriously the concrete problems they faced on earth. ... He insisted that there are no absolute moral rules ... Dewey's insistence upon the uniqueness of every moral situation is a point which ... is defined by contemporary existentialists and the new morality of situational ethics" (Conflict of Ideals, Changing Values In Western Society, by Luther J Binkley, 1969, Litton Educational Publishing Inc., pg. 18-21). "Today, our state supported "public" schools are humanistic schools. Actually, they are religious institutions teaching, with public funds, an alien faith. The public schools are an establishment of religion: the religion of humanism" (Secular Humanism - Man Striving To Be God, The World's Second Oldest Religion, 1979, by R. J. Rushdooney).

God has said to Christian fathers, "And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4), and to Christian mothers, " ... guide the house ..." (1st Timothy 5:14). Sadly, Christian parents have turned that guidance and teaching over to atheism, sexual promiscuity, and heathenism (Humanism). Then we ask, "What has happened to our children"? In the times of Nehemiah, when the Jewish people had married foreign spouses, their children could no longer speak the Jewish language (God's language) but the language of the world (Nehemiah 13:23-24). Perhaps the question we should ask is, "In the name of education, what have we done to our children"?

"HUMANISM AND EDUCATION - EVOLUTION"

Larry Yarber

"And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, ... and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, ... and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: ... So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" (Genesis 1:24-27).

This article is not an indictment against public education or its educators. It is however, an indictment against that which is falsely perpetrated as knowledge, in the guise of education (1st Timothy 6:20).

The "Evolution Lie" stands in stark contrast to the creation story and established scientific law. The law of "Biogenesis" (which is the cornerstone of all biology) basically states - life only comes from life, and that of its own kind. There is no known exception to this rule! The creation story and the Bible are both in harmony with this scientific fact. Evolution and the cartoon transformations found in practically every "science" book within the educational system are without any reliable verification whatsoever and refute proven scientific law. There are no "so - called" reliable fossil records and all of the "supposed" missing - links have been proven to be nothing more than fraudulent attempts by an intellectually dishonest movement to destroy the fundamental faith of unsuspecting and innocent children.

"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1). The first and second laws of "Thermodynamics" basically state - matter is not capable of creating itself and the earth is slowly running down, not winding up, "And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thy hands: They shall perish; ... and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: ..." :(Hebrews 2:10-12). The "Evolution Lie" denies both of these scientific truths~ There is more likelihood of a tornado hitting a printing shop and creating a dictionary or a hurricane hitting a forest and creating a city than an uncontrolled explosion creating a universe with hundreds of thousands of different types of life forms and the ability to sustain it's own existence. And, despite the fact that there are no recorded incidents of any such phenomenal occurrences in the history of the world, this is exactly what "Evolution" and "The Big Bang" theory espouse.

Remember, "John Dewey", also known as the "Father of Progressive Education" and "Charles Francis Potter" who was an honorary president of the National Education Association, was both signers of the Humanist Manifesto I. One of the quotes attributed to Charles Francis Potter is, "Education is thus a most powerful ally of Humanism, and every American public school is a school of Humanism" (Charles Francis Potter, Humanism: A New religion (New York: Simon and Schuster, 1930, p. 128). The following quotes are from the afore-mentioned document which they signed and is now being taught to our children every day in the guise of "education" (1st Timothy 6:20). “... humanists still believe that traditional theism (belief in God - LY), ... is an unproved and outmoded faith. Salvationism, ... still appears as harmful, diverting people with false hope of heaven hereafter." "First: Religious humanists (an oxymoron - LY) regard the universe as self-existing and not created. Second: Humanism believes that man is a part of nature (pantheism - LY) and that he has emerged as a result of a continuous process (evolution - LY).Third: Holding an organic view of life (atheistic -LY), humanists find that the traditional dualism of mind and body (soul and spirit -LY) must be rejected." (Humanist Manifesto's I and II, Prometheus Books, 1973).

And to think that we allow this type of propaganda and indoctrination to be fed to our children on a daily basis in the name of education. How sad! No wonder America is in a terminal state of self-destruction and societal ruin.

"HUMANISM AND EDUCATION - SITUATIONAL ETHICS"

Larry Yarber

"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie" (Revelation 22:14-15). "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death" (Revelation 21:8).

Again, may we say, this article is not an indictment against public education or its educators. Christianity is itself a taught religion (John 6:44-45). It is however, an indictment against that which is falsely perpetrated as knowledge, in the guise of education (1st Timothy 6:20).

As we noted last week, truth is absolute and unchangeable, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall never pass away" (Matthew 24:35). And, truth can be known and understood alike by all men. Jesus said, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). Paul penned, "How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)" (Ephesians 3:3-4).

On the other hand, Humanism teaches that truth is relative and situational. Relative, [("... not absolute or existing by itself; depending on or incidental to something else: ...") Webster, pg. 809]. Situational, [("... Position or location in respect to physical surroundings; ... state, condition, or position with respect to society or circumstances; temporary state or position; ...") Webster, pg. 904]. Thus, Humanism teaches that the morality of God is subject to the whims of societal change and therefore it is proper and right at times to murder (abortion, euthanasia), lie, steal, be sexually promiscuous, etc. And, that at times it is even immoral not to do so. This is what our children have been and are being taught in the name of public education (1st Tim. 6:20).

Let's now see what the Humanists are saying about situational ethics. "We affirm that moral values derive their source from human experience. Ethics is autonomous and situational, needing no theological ... sanction. Ethics stem from human need and interest" (Humanist Manifesto's I and II, Prometheus Books, 1973). “Courses in 'Values Clarification' indoctrinate children to reject the moral absolutes of the Bible. This is accomplished by the introduction of ‘situational ethics'. ... A sociology textbook explains that ‘there are exceptions to almost all moral laws, depending on the situation. What is wrong in one instance may be right in another. Most children learn that it is wrong to lie. But later they may learn that it is tactless, if not actually wrong, not to lie under certain circumstances’." [(Do You Really Understand What Is Happening in Our Country? 1983, Institute in Basic Youth Conflicts, Printed in USA, Rev 4/88, pg. 4) quoting: Inquiries in Sociology, (Allyn & Bacon, 1972) pg. 37). “Ethics is autonomous and situational, needing no theological or ideological sanction (italics theirs). In other words, there is nothing outside of man by which one can judge an action or situation and say it is right or wrong. The morality of a situation is derived from the need of the moment. Thus, adultery can be wrong if it hurts someone, but right if it helps a marriage. This is 'situational ethics'." (Secular Humanism - Man Striving to Be God, Humanism: Man as Master, By Bob Sutton, l979, pg. 51 par. 1).

Parents are to raise their children in the teachings of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4 and 1st Timothy 5:14). It is past time to remove these Humanistic (anti - God) philosophies out of public education or to remove our children from the public schools.

"HUMANISM AND EDUCATION - SEX EDUCATION"

Larry Yarber

"And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up" (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).

This article is not an indictment against public education or its educators. There are positive things to be said of public education and many of its educators embrace the same Judea/Christian beliefs of our founding fathers. If it was not for the bold efforts of these educators to check the Humanistic philosophies which have invaded the public educational systems, things would be direr than they are at present. To these educators we express our thanks and encourage them to keep up the good fight. These articles are an indictment against vain philosophies and science (knowledge) falsely "so-called" (1st Timothy 6:20 and Philippians 2:8).

As noted above, it is the obligation of parents to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4 and 1st Timothy 5:14). This duty has not been delegated to the village as some promote. This does not mean that parents have to do all the teaching themselves, but it does mean that they are responsible for what they allow their children to be taught, and whom they allow to teach their children. When Israel allowed their children to be taught and raised in the ways of their foreign spouses they raised a generation which, "... spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews language, but according to the language of each people" (Nehemiah 13:24). Prior to this, it was said of Israel, "... and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel" (Judges 2:10). We cannot stand by as parents and allow sexual promiscuity and perversion, immorality, "Values Clarification", "Situational Ethics", "Moral Reasoning"," Reflective Approach"," Sex Education", or any other Humanistic philosophy to be taught or promoted to our children in the guise of education. This is not education but indoctrination! Sex education and moral values should be left to parents and the home, not governmental indoctrination camps. Yet, as is revealed below, this is what our children are being taught in our "so-called" public educational system.

Barbara Morris quotes from the N.E.A. in her book, Change Agents in the Schools, saying that an N.E.A. publication, "... advised teachers that using a citizen advisory committee at every stage of planning a sex education program ... can be a strong force in quieting parent protests. ... the publication also cautioned that in spite of very careful preparation, some parents and citizens ... whose personnel attitudes were warped, may complain or may try to sabotage the program" (The Barbara M. Morris report, P.O. Box 756, Upland, CA. 91786, 1979, pp. 51-52). "At Harvard College, there is now a social justice requirement; every student must take a course such as Postcolonial Women Writers, Psychological Issues of Lesbians and Gay Males, and Feminist Political Theory" (Gary Bauer, "Colleges: Watch Out for the Sensitivity Police", Washington Watch, Family Research Council, December, 1990, p. 4). "A conservative student newspaper at the State University of New York at Binghamton editorialized against creation of a department of Gay and Lesbian studies. The papers funds were cut off, and the editors were forced to attend a sensitivity training session!" (Same source just mentioned).

What has become of our children? We cannot allow Satan to educate our children and then think they are going to grow up to be Christians! We parents are responsible for the spiritual training of our children and we will answer to God for what we have allowed them to be taught.

"HUMANISM AND EDUCATION - TRUTH"

Larry Yarber

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth" (John 17:17).

This article is not an indictment against public education or its educators. Christianity is itself a taught religion (John 6:44-45). It is however, an indictment against that which is falsely perpetrated as knowledge, in the guise of education (1st Timothy 6:20).

Our Lord taught that truth can be known. So did Paul, "How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ" (Ephesians 3:3-4). Truth is not relative [(" ... not absolute or existing by itself; depending on or incidental to something else: ...") WEBSTER, pg. 809]. Truth is absolute and never changes regardless of the situation. Jesus said, "And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day" (John 12:47-48). Furthermore, that word will not change or pass away, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever" (Hebrews: 13:8). And, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall never pass away" (Matthew 24:35). This is why we are admonished, "Buy the truth, and sell it not: also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding" (Proverbs: 23:23). The truth will stand, as written, to judge us in the judgment day.
