2. Graduate Study in Human Rights Education at the University of San Francisco
The University of San Francisco (USF) School of Education is proud to offer the first Master of Arts in Human Rights Education in the United States. Admission is now open for a new cohort starting in Fall 2014 (deadline May 1). Our faculty consists of leading scholars in the field of Human Rights Education. The Master of Arts in Human Rights Education Program provides a unique opportunity to understand and address deep-rooted social and educational inequities through the lens of human rights. Grounded in the practice of critical pedagogy, this program provides a dynamic learning community where students benefit from rigorous learning experiences both in the classroom and in the community.
Designed to support teachers of early childhood through college, as well as educators working in non-formal settings such as community organizations, Human Rights Education entails understanding the promise of rights guarantees and the gap between rights and actual realities. Courses examine the right to education, schooling with dignity and rights, and curricular efforts towards social justice and comprehensive human rights. Students engage with issues in local and global contexts, with emphasis on globalization, migration, social movements, and transnationalism.

All programs at the School of Education at the University of San Francisco are tailored to working individuals and operate on a teaching weekend schedule to accommodate diverse learners.

Summary
The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks applicants for the position of Senior Manager Bachelor Degree Programs (BDP) for a USAID-funded Afghanistan University Strengthening and Workforce Development Project (USWDP). Overall, the Senior Manager for Bachelor Degree Programs is responsible for the establishment and development of bachelor degree programs that conform to Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) requirements and that meet the workforce needs of Afghanistan. The Senior Manager’s primary role is contributing to the strengthening of existing Bachelors programs and creating new programs as part of project-wide efforts to provide support for enhancing the market-oriented skills of students. The Manager shall carry out his responsibilities in a manner that ensures the timely realization of project objectives. Overall, the Senior Manager BDP will work with counterpart individuals and institutions to ensure the timely realization of the project objectives.
Afghanistan is a non-dependent post. Anticipated start date for these 2 to 3 year positions is on or about April, 2014. A full set of benefits is provided including housing in Kabul and regular regional and international leave.
Main Responsibilities
  1. Work with the Universities and the MoHE to create evaluation mechanisms to ensure quality of undergraduate programs.
  2. Collaborate with the key technical committees on Quality Assurance in the MoHE as part of its focused efforts to implement the National Higher Education Strategic Plan (NHESP).
  3. Assist with appropriate data collection and analysis to determine which bachelor’s programs should be enhanced or developed at specific universities that have been selected to participate in USWDP activities.
  4. Work with the Senior Manager of University Support to ensure that activities at each university are implemented in a cohesive and coordinated manner.
  5. Assist with the facilitation and delivery of public-private partnerships that support the development of market-oriented skills for students in the programs.
  6. Collaborate as appropriate with the Career Centers being developing at the universities.
  7. Assist with the facilitation and delivery of academic partnerships with regional and USA universities that support the development of new and enhanced bachelor’s programs.
Minimum qualifications and attributes
1)Master's degree (doctorate preferred) in area related to higher education development.
2)Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in program/project management in area of institutional systems development with a proven track record of programmatic accomplishment and professional achievement. Experience must include faculty development, academic program development, teacher education and institutional capacity building.
3)Applied knowledge of organizational design with the education sector, particularly higher education, and experience in teacher training and workshop facilitation activities.
4)International development experience and knowledge of higher education systems development required
5)Knowledge of political and social features of Afghanistan or similar post-conflict countries and the issues involved in changing higher educational systems.
6)Ability and willingness to live and work in a difficult and sometimes dangerous environment.
