Educational /professional qualifications /
  • Equivalent of at least 5 GCSEs grades A-C including English and Maths
  • Recognised HR qualification e.g. CIPD qualified, or in progress; or HR degree.
/ Degree
Health & Safety qualifications (CIEH, NEBOSH etc) or willingness to undertake training
Experience/ knowledge / At least 2 years’customer-focussed generalist HR experience covering all aspects of the HR cycle: recruitment & selection, performance management, information management & internal comms, learning & development, employee benefits etc /
  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Experience of working for a non-profit organisation
  • Payroll experience
  • Understanding of the role of HR in achieving organisational objectives

Proven track record providing advice and support to staff and managers regarding policy, procedure and best practice
Experience and full understanding of HR best practice principles and relevant employment legislatione.g. Data Protection, Equality Act etc /
  • Familiarity with People In Aid Code of Good Practice in the Management & Support of Aid Personnel
  • Experience of working towards Investors in People Award, or equivalent

Skills/personal requirements / Sound IT competencies including Word, Excel, Outlook etc / Experience of managing web page content
Superior written and interpersonal communications skills, with ability to work well with employees, volunteers, all members of the community and other professionals / Understanding of the PR aspect of an HR department
Able to work on own initiative to deadlines; plus flexible, pro-active approach, with ability to work as part of a team
Proven ability to remain calm, focused and objective
Highly organised with meticulous administrative and time management skills / Experience setting up a HRIS
Superior attention to detail, even when under pressure. Ability to think laterally and ‘cover all the bases’.
Demonstrable commitment to own CPD
Willingness to adapt to the demands of a fast growing international disaster relief charity. Accustomed to working in fast moving, changeable environments / Empathy with the charity sector
