Human Resources Specialist (Vessel Operations)

Coastal Villages Region Fund is currently seeking applications for Human Resource Specialist to work in our corporate office in Anchorage, Alaska. The primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing a variety of generalist human resource responsibilities with a strong focus on providing support to CVRF’s vessel operations. The incumbent will be responsible for interviewing, hiring, maintaining accurate files, travel arrangements, and general administrative duties

Specific Duties:

·  Attracts applicants by placing job advertisements in MyStaffing Pro, Craigslist, Seattle Times and/or CareerBuilder; creating weekly job opportunity flyers for available jobs/programs within local communities when necessary

·  Determines applicant requirements by studying job description and job qualifications

·  Monitors and maintains job postings, closes job rec’s when filled with applicant/changes status to hire

·  Reviews hiring manager responses through HMQR and updates applicants status based on those responses

·  Creates/changes pre- interview questions in MyStaffingPro as needed to be in line with job requirements

·  Determines applicant qualifications to job requirements

·  Participates in interviews of possible candidates and determines if they would be a good fit for the position

·  Improves organization attractiveness by emphasizing benefits and perks of CVRF

·  Conducts reference checks/ and follow through on potential hires, relays any reference concerns to Supervisor

·  Updates applicants’ statuses in MyStaffingPro throughout the entire recruitment process

·  Compiles all paperwork involved during the recruitment process, including interview notes, authorizations, reference checks, and background checks

·  Enrolls employees in Healthforce and assist employees with the Healthforce process

·  Assists with drug testing program

·  Notifies departments (IT, HR Manager, Benefits and Payroll )of dates of new hire/terms/status changes via established process

·  Administers hiring paperwork and contracts to crew as needed

·  Books travel arrangements for employees/crew members as needed

·  Avoids legal challenges by understanding current laws, recommending and creating new procedures

·  Verifies information of all new hires entered in GP is accurate

·  Helps develop new programs to better assist the needs of the HR department

Starting wage: $21-$24 / hr DOE – Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

This position reports directly to the Human Resources Manager

Requirements:

• 2 years of experience in a Human Resources Department

• Must be outgoing and self-motivated with a strong desired to excel

• Must have strong time-management skills and ability to multitask and meet deadlines

• Must be willing to learn, have high attention to detail and a high regard for accuracy

• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to represent the company in a professional manner

• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, the Internet and have computer aptitude

• Must be able to travel regularly and work occasional overtime to meet deadlines

This position is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and florescent lighting. It requires the regular use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Also, travel to rural areas of Alaska and to other states will be required. During travel, employee may be required to board vessels of varying size and function.
