WORK INTENSITY MONITORING, IMPROVING JUNIOR DOCTORS WORKING LIVES

Welcome to your March 2012 Monitoring pack!

As I am sure that you are aware, under the ‘Improving Junior Doctors Working Lives’, your hours have to be monitored twice a year. This is to ensure that the new rota is compliant with EWTD, the New Deal and to gain a true reflection of your working life. Please note that you are contractually obliged to complete and return your monitoring form, and persistent failure to do so may result in disciplinary action. In order to have a successful monitoring round I need 75% return rate. Non return of forms will initially result in re monitoring for all Doctors.

Your monitoring period will take place from:

MONDAY 12th MARCH TO SUNDAY 1st APRIL 2012 INCLUSIVE

(note: a three week monitoring period has been agreed with Junior Doctor Representatives.)

Please complete the enclosed forms, include normal days, evenings and night shifts undertaken and return in the envelopes provided. Please return your monitoring forms on a weekly basis, as directed on the forms. Please note the final form should initially be faxed to 01228 602385 or delivered by hand where possible so that Medical Staffing receive a copy no later than Wednesday 4th April 2012.

Please note that I will be asking your Consultant to verify your hours worked after you have submitted them to me. If you do not return your form in time your hours may be automatically verified as compliant due to non return of data.

Your monitoring pack will comprise of the following:

  • Trust Guide to EWTD and the New Deal
  • Monitoring Form
  • Guidance notes

Please ensure that you take, and record your natural breaks. You should be taking a 30 minutes break after 4 hours of work, and you must record this on your monitoring forms. If you are experiencing difficulties with this, please speak to your Consultant Supervisor and myself before the end of the monitoring period.

Please note that any shifts undertaken in a locum capacity should not be recorded on the forms.
