Human Impact on the Environment

Your task for this session is as follows:

•Choose a different human impact topic (not plastic pollution) and pick a species affected by it which you would like to research.

•Using ARKive and other web resources, find as much information as you can about how your chosen species is affected by human impacts on the environment.

•Make a PowerPoint presentation introducing your species, explaining why it is threatened and describing how you could measure the impact that humans are having on this species. Try and come up with some suggestions as to what can be done to help protect your species.

•Illustrate your presentation using photographs and films from the ARKive website.

Suggested slides to include in your presentation:

  1. Briefly introduce your species, for example, where is it found, what does it eat, etc…
  1. Explain how your species is threatened by human impacts on the environment, including any facts and statistics you can find.
  1. Describe the ways in which scientists could measure the human impact on your chosen species.
  1. Suggest ways in which people could help protect this species.
