Week 1 Tasks (Week ending 5/13)

  • Read through the "Course Orientation" page.
  • Read through thesyllabus.
  • Take thesyllabus quizby 11:59 pm on Sunday, May 13th.
  • Post to the“Introduce Yourself” Discussion BoardbyWednesday of the first week of classes at 11:59 pm,and respond to the posts of two other studentsby 11:59 pm on Sunday. Failure to do so will result in a “No Show” withdrawal.
  • Watch the“Introductory Lecture.”
  • Read pages 33-62 in Chapter 2 in the textbook. As you read, answer the study questions found in this week's materials. You WILL NOT submit the questions for a grade.
  • TakeChapter 2 reading quiz. The multiple-choice questions are drawn from the chapter study questions. Be sure you study from your chapter questions before attempting to take the quiz, as you will not have enough time to complete it if you are searching through your questions as you take it.

Week 2 Tasks (Week ending 5/20)

  • ViewPowerPoint lectureon Ancient Civilizations of the Aegean Sea Region. Take notes on lecture.
  • ViewPowerPointtitled “Greek Values"by mid-weekso that you can post to the Discussion Board about a related topic.
  • Post to theDiscussion Boardon the topic about Greek values. (Remember, you need to post your original thread by Wednesday, and respond to two other students by the end of the week.)
  • Watch the shortvideoabout the Acropolis and Agora in Athens.
  • ViewVideo Lectureon the Parthenon andkalokagathia. (You are responsible for the information from the lecture for the first test.)
  • CompletetheClassical Greek SculptureandParthenon note-taking assignments, and then study from your answers before taking thequizon the material.(You will NOT submit the note-taking guides for a grade.)
  • Viewvideo lectureon Classical Greek Sculpture andkalokagathia.

Week 3 Tasks (Week ending 5/27)

  • Complete theassignment for Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" by **the middle of theweek(so that you can post to the Discussion Board about this assignment) and upload it to the submission site by Wednesday.
  • Post to theDiscussion Boardtopic regarding the "Allegory of the Cave." Post your initial thread by mid-week and respond to the posts of two other students by the end of the week. (If you do not post your initial thread by mid-week, you will receive a zero for the discussion.)
  • Read pp.69-87 in Chapter 3 (The Romans) and answer the study questions found in this week's materials.Study from your answers in order to be prepared for the quiz.

  • ViewVideo Lectureon the founding of Rome.(You are responsible for the information from this presentation for the first test.)
  • Complete thenote-taking assignmentfor "Rome: Ancient Glory," and take thequizon the materials.

Week 4 Tasks (Week ending 6/3)

  • ViewPowerPointtitled "Roman History and Culture." (You are responsible for the information form the presentation for the first test.)
  • Complete theRoman Sculpture note-taking assignment, and take thequizon the material.
  • Review for Test #1 from the study guide.
  • TakeTest #1on Introductory Lecture, and Chapters 2 & 3 materials by the end of the week.

Week 5 Tasks (Week ending 6/10)

  • View the PowerPoint lecture about the Middle Ages and the Christian Church's power.
  • View thePowerPoint lecturetitled “Introduction to the Renaissance".
  • After viewing the PowerPoint, post to theDiscussion Boardregarding the two “Madonna Enthroned” paintings seen in the presentation. (Remember to post your original threadby mid-week, and respond to the posts of two others studentsby the end of the week.)
  • Readpp. 177-211 inChapter 7in the textbook and answer thestudy questions. (You will NOT submit your answers to the study questions.)
  • TaketheChapter 7 reading quiz.
  • Watch thevideotitled “Florence: Heart of the Renaissance”(first 13 minutes only).
  • View thevideo lectureon the Baptistery Door Competition. (The things you need to know from this lecture for the second test are listed at the start of the video.)
  • ViewPowerPoint titled "Brunelleschi's Dome" (with embedded video link on slide #4).

Week 6 Tasks (Week ending 6/17)

  • Complete the lesson on the difference between aRenaissance motetand amadrigal, and post to theDiscussion Boardtopic titled “Renaissance Madrigals.” (Remember to post your original thread by mid-week, and respond to the posts of two others students by the end of the week.)
  • Complete theassignmentfor Pico’s Oration on the Dignity of Manand upload it to the submission site.
  • View thevideo lecturetitled “Pico’sOrationand Neo-Platonism." You are responsible for information from this lecture for the homework assignment as well as for the second test.
  • View thePowerPointtitled “Renaissance Humanism in Visual Art,”and be sure to watch the videos that are embedded in the presentation. (You must activate the PowerPoint as a slideshow for the video links to become “hot.”)Complete theassignmentthat goes along with the presentation and submit it.

  • View thePowerPointtitled “Romantic Music.” Activate the presentation as aslideshowso that the embedded links become “hot.” Click on each link to listen to the selection of Romantic music that is detailed on each slide. (Some of these music selections will appear on the final test, and you will have to identify them by listening to them.)
  • Read Chapter 13 in the textbook and answer the study questions.
  • Take theChapter 13 quiz.
  • View "Industrialization" presentation. (Some of the slides contain lecture notes on the Notes Pages.)
  • Complete thenote-taking assignmentfor "Materialism Art Movements" andsubmit the assignment using the submission link.
  • There is no Discussion Board this week.

Week 12 Tasks (Week ending 7/29)

  • Post to the finalDiscussion Boardtopic which asks you to evaluate the material from the course. Remember to post your original threadby mid-week, and respond to the posts of two other students by the end of the week.
