Hoxton Hall is an atmospheric 150 year old grade II* listed Music Hall Theatre (one of only 4 Music Halls remaining in the UK) with adjoining music rooms and recording space, rehearsal rooms, dance studio, meeting rooms, and art workshops. Hoxton Hall also runs creative industry workspace (Hoxton Workspaces) and the Rose Bowl youth centre in Islington. Hoxton Hall is committed to providing quality arts experiences which engage, inspire and transform young people and audiences as well as promoting community cohesion and contributing to the vibrant cultural life of residents in Shoreditch, Hackney and East London.

Hoxton Hall is based in Hackney, one of the most deprived boroughs in London and the UK, works with 80% BMAE communities, with a focus on Young Londoners from 7 to 25 years old. We develop creative projects which achieve our vision, respond to individuals and local community needs and government agenda.
Nurturing Talent and Creativity
Securing Hackney and Islington Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP) commissions for £300k per year over 5 years, to directly change the lives of over 1500 young people. Strategically aligning our projects with a learning and progression policy, we ensure young people develop through the organisation and progress on into employment education and training.
An Anchor in the Community
Developing arts, education and heritage projects to engage young people in Hoxton Hall and Hackney history, establishing projects in partnership with Discover Hackney (heritage partnership with Geffrye Museum, LBH archives, Building Exploratory and UEL) funded by HLF and MLA.
Exploring the Entrepreneur
Hoxton Street Management (HSM) supports young people to develop careers in performing arts, which last year generated income directly for the young people we work with. Our other commercial ventures (Hoxton Workspaces and events and hires of our buildings) generate over £100k for the organisation.
Platform for Performance
Increase wellbeing and enjoyment by understanding and appreciation of the performing arts in the local area, including a new heritage focus performance programme positioning Hoxton Hall as the old home of modern variety and performance. We aim to make best use of our venue for performance, events and showcase for the benefit of the local community, developing audiences from East and pan London.
Beyond Caretaking
We have almost completed phase 2 of our 3 phase £5.5m capital plan. Restoration, conservation and modernisation of our 150 year old grade II* listed Music Hall Theatre, with heritage and archive interpretation exhibition, sound scape and new website. Making Hoxton Hall a visitor attraction, newly refurbished variety hall and performance space and ensuring our theatre is in use for another 150 years.

Hours:Full Time 35 hours per week(during office hours 10am–6pm Monday to Friday, evening and weekend work required) this will Include covering staff rota for events, and Duty Manager cover at out of hours events
Pay:£26,000 per annum

Job Description
At this exciting time as our grade II* listed Music Hall capital works are completing in Jan 2015 we are looking for a new role of Theatre Manager.
Experienced and dedicated hands on efficient theatre manager required, with standout experience in all functions of running a small theatre, including operations, productions, facilities and events. Ideal candidate will have experience of overseeing events, venue and technical team of freelancers, casual staff and volunteers to deliver a busy programme of theatre productions and commercial events. Will have detailed knowledge of theatre technical and facilities management to ensure Hoxton Hall sites and newly refurbished theatre are well cared for and compliant with regulation. Excellent customer service standards will be required in events delivery and throughout box office, bar and front of house.
Initial part of the role will be, working with the contractors and theatre planners, ensuring smooth handover of the theatre from capital works. Recruiting staff and providing training and to ensure the operation of the theatre post refurbishment in preparation for our new season of performances.
- Theatre and Events - Working with the Director and General Manager to arrange, set up and deliver events and theatre productions, including arranging staffing cover and duty management. Covering for duty managers where required. Maintain high standards, licencing and H&S practices, provide training for staff to ensure the same high standards.
- Box Office, Bar and Front of House - Following the refurbishment, lead on the set up of the front of house function, including spectrix box office system, card payments / machines, tills and bars. Understand the use of FOH systems and cash handling processes to be able to train staff in operations.
- Installation, testing and training - Oversee the practical technical installation with the contractors and the design team. Test the equipment when installed, document the process and write a comprehensive manual of operation. Provide training sessions for HH staff to ensure smooth operation of the space and new equipment.
- Supporting Services - CCTV, IT, Data and Telecoms and front and back of house theatre operation services and systems. Ensure full operation, system inductions and workstation set-up. Occasionally troubleshooting, fault reporting and problem solving.
- Site and contractor management - Undertake and report on weekly site checks on behalf of HH, monitoring H&S, fire alarm checks, emergency equipment, procedures and licensing obligations ensuring all spaces are clean and ready for use and contractors / works are managed within zones and site boundaries. Negotiate and resolve any problems and ensure the communication is conveyed to HH staff team
- Facilities and Maintenance Management -Set up maintenance schedules as recommended by contractor’s manuals following the refurbishment. Work with the General Manager to tender contractors (value for money) to uphold our maintenance, H&S and licencing obligations.
