HOW TO WRITE A POWERFUL RESUME

If you are looking for a job you need a resume. Your resume is your own personal ______, brochure, or flyer. A resume is a one-page handout that shows what a great catch you are-it is your chance to toot your own horn, so “BEEP BEEP!!!”

The nuts and bolts of a resume:

There is no official format for a resume. You can set up your resume in the way that you feel looks most ______and aesthetically pleasing. Your resume is an ongoing work in progress, so feel free to change, modify, expand, delete, or simplify it at any given time. No matter what format you use, the following topics should be included in your resume: Heading, Job Objective, Education, Work Experience, Activities and Accomplishments, and Personal.

Heading:

This is the section of your resume that tells employers ______you are and where they can reach you. At the top center of the page:

  • Type your full name (including your middle initial) in at least 18 font
  • Mailing address
  • Telephone Number with ______
  • Email Address

Job Objective:

If you don't ask for a specific occupation, the employer probably will not choose you because they might wonder what job your seeking. So in one short ______tell what kind of work you are looking for:

  • Example: Seeking a summer job as a camp counselor.
  • Example: Seeking a part-time position as a babysitter.

Education:

Start will your most recent school or program. On one line give:

  • The school’s name, the city-state address, and the date of completion (or years completed).
  • Immediately under each school, you may want to list a few of the courses you took or some ______you’ve completed that would help you get the job you want.
  • You can also include any apprentice training, special workshops, seminars, or special ______you have attended.

Work Experience:

Work includes full-time, part-time, self-employed, volunteer, charitable, or casual labor.

  • Start with your most ______employer.
  • In one line, give your dates of employment; you job title, the name of the company, and the company’s city-state address.
  • Directly under the line, list your important duties and responsibilities.

Activities and Accomplishments:

List the extracurricular activities that you’re involved in, your accomplishments, ______, awards, and certifications that you have received.

Personal:

This section is optional, but it's a great place to mention any special ______, skills, or accomplishments that might interest the hiring manager. You do not have to explain you age, gender, marital status, family size, or disabilities—that's the ______!

Keep your resume simple!

  1. Keep your sentences ______.
  2. Bold or capitalize important headlines so they stand out.
  3. Use single spaces within each section. Use double spaces between different sections.
  4. Find three people who will give you a positive recommendation.

  6. Pour on the “sizzle factor” and give important ______.
