HOW TO USE LIBRARY SCANNERS

1.  Place the document you want to scan face down on the glass platen. The top edge of the document needs to be against the front edge of the scanner otherwise it will scan upside down - look for the arrow to position your document correctly

2.  Push the Auto Scan button on the front panel of the scanner. Auto Scan will save any image as a PDF file. Copy the document will scan it and then go into printing. The Email button on the front does not work

3.  The following window will appear as the document is scanned.

4.  Once the scan is complete, the program will give you the option of

scanning more pages or exiting.

5.  At this stage you can either choose to scan again or exit.

6.  If you choose to click exit, this window appears on the screen. The bottom left hand screen shows the exact location of the image. The program creates a folder using today’s date.

C:\Users\Library User\Pictures\MP Navigator EX\2015_11_05\IMG.pdf

At this point you can double click on the image to check that it has scanned correctly. If it has not scanned properly, click on Jump to Main Menu and select the SCAN option to work through the scan one step at a time

7.  Selecting the document/s, gives the option of printing from here.

8.  If you want to attach the document in an email, open your email program. Click on Compose or New Email (terminology varies between email programs).

Once you have your new email form, click on the attach icon (as pictured to the left) and browse to the file:

C:\Users\Library User\Pictures\MP Navigator EX\2015_11_05\IMG.pdf

Double click on the file name to attach the file to your email

ADVANCED SCANNING

short overview

9.  Go to the Start Menu choose All Programs → Canon Utilities → MP Navigator Ex 4.0

10.  That opens the menu.

11.  OCR – Optical Character Recognition

Navigator is a fairly basic program so OCR works if you have a good quality word document. It will scan the document into a word or wordpad document with reasonable accuracy – but formatting may be lost. OCR cannot cope with logos or other types of graphics

12.  Scan allows fine tuning of the scan – for instance, here are some settings for a basic photograph. For photographs, it is important to choose a resolution/dpi which suits what you are planning to do with the photographs – e.g.: the default resolution is 300 dpi (dots per pixel). if you planning to print to a large size than the original, you may need to scan to a higher dpi
