Test for Chlorine
Warning:
Chlorine is poisonous and will stain your clothes!!!
- Setup.
- Place 10 drops of bleach solution into cup 1.
- Place 10 drops of distilled water in cups 2-5.
- Perform four step-by-step dilutions of the Chlorine solution in cups 2-5. Make each dilution a 1-in-10 (or 1/10) dilution.
- Place 1 drop of cup 1 into cup and stir. Clean your dropper.
- Place 1 drop of cup 2 into cup 3 and stir. Clean your dropper.
- Repeat with cups 4 and 5.
- Add 10 drops of pool water to cup 6.
- Add 10 drops of tap water to cup 7.
- Add 10 drops of distilled water to cup 8.
- Tear the litmus papers into 8 equal pieces.
- Determine the Chlorine level and pH.
- Add 1 drop of Chlorine test solution to each cup and record the Chlorine levels in the chart.
- Drop a small piece of litmus paper into each cup and record the results.
