How to sign up for Kid Power at Centerville Library:

  1. Anyone going into 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th grades in the fall may be a KidPower Volunteer at Centerville Library. Sign-ups start May2, 2013.
  1. Print out and carefully read all the documents in this packet.
  1. Fill out all the forms and sign if required. There are three forms in this packet:

- Parent’s Permission (signature required)

- Kid Power Application and Contract (signature required)

- KidPower Volunteering Log (fill out your name only)

  1. Check your calendar and have the days and times you are available ready as you will be choosing your work periods at the time you turn in your forms.
  1. Bring ALL completed forms back to the Centerville Library Information Desk during open hours, currently Tuesdays 1-8 p.m. and Thursdays 11a.m. - 6 p.m.
  1. All Kid Power volunteers are required to attend the half-hour Orientation Meeting scheduled on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.

Standards for Kid Power Volunteers

  1. You must memorize the game and be able to explain it clearly to parents and students. Practice at home with an adult.
  1. If an adult or a child asks about information to find anything in the library, always refer them to the Information Desk.
  1. Be enthusiastic about the game! Always congratulate a child when they win and send them to the Information Desk when they win a prize. Remember you represent the Library and we want children to be excited about being here.
  1. When you arrive to volunteer, check in at the Information Desk and get your “Kid Power” badge.
  1. At the end of your shift, be sure to record your hours on the KidPower Volunteering Logsheet at the Information Desk.
  1. Keep the Summer Reading Game table clear of books or extra papers.
  1. Please do not leave your work area (Kid Power Table). You may quickly leave to use the restroom or find a book on the shelves nearby. Do not go any further away from the table.
  1. You may bring a bottle of water in case you get thirsty.
  1. If a friend comes to visit, please explain to them that you are working and have them make plans to talk to you later.
  1. Please do not listen to iPod or MP3, or use your cell phone during your shift.
  1. Do not stamp for a child – they need to have that pleasure & fun.
  1. Please dress appropriately. Jeans and casual clothing are acceptable.
  1. If players lose a game board, they need to speak with a librarian.

KID POWER SUMMER VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Parent Permission Form

Dear Parent:

The Children’s Staff at the Irvington Library is sponsoring “Kid Power”, a volunteer program this summer for children who will be going into grades 6, 7, 8, or 9 in the fall. Volunteer hours are for two-hour shifts during the library’s open hours, currently Tuesday, 1 to 8 p.m. and Thursdays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., between June 10 and August 10, 2013. Volunteers must work a minimum of 6 hours during the summer to be eligible for the Kid Power party. The date of the party will be announced once it’s decided.

Volunteers will be supervised during their work periods. They will help children play the Summer Reading Game. They may also be asked to assist during special library programs and/or to assemble materials for craft projects. They will generally learn more about how their library operates.

Your permission is necessary as you will be responsible for your child’s transportation to and from the library. Thank you!

KID POWER Application and Contract

Thank you very much for volunteering to help with Kid Power. The Kid Power program is a good way for you to serve the public and to fulfill volunteering hours for school. At the same time you will develop work skills and experience.

Any one going into grades 6,7, 8 or 9 in the fall may be a Kid Power Volunteer at Centerville Library. A Kid Power Volunteer’s primary duty is to help kids play the Summer Reading Game. Volunteers may also help with special programs and perform other duties as time and interest allow.
