Connect you to the following web address:

The following page will open:

If you are a new user click on the link New user? Click here. Then you have to follow few simple instructions in order to register you in the EVC for the SYRMEP beamline.

If you are an already registered user insert your usernameand password, then press login. The following page will appear.

Click on Your Experiments as suggested by the EVC page instructions: The corresponding page will show you all your projects and some relative information about each project.

At this point you can either create a new project (only from ELETTRA) selecting Set-up a new experiment or open an already existing project. In the first case you will see the following page where the code can be the code of your experiment in the ELETTRA VUO or an in-house experiment that you can call with a short name (i.e. “Test”). You have also to select the name of the beamline where you will perform or you have already performed your measurements and finally, the sate of your project:

a)collection means that

b)stand-by:

c)computing:

d)completed::

At the end you have to click save and you have to wait few minutes in order to be successful with the project creation.

If you open an existing project and you are the Leader, you can also add new members to the project clicking on Add a member option. The person you will add to the project will share with you all information and files relative to the project.

Now you can logoff from the EVC.

Data Acquisition

Once you are a registered user and you have created a new project associated to your experiment, you start your experiment at the beamline. Before starting the experiment you have to logon on the PC used for the data acquisition. To this purpose, press the CTRL-ALT-DEL buttons on the keyboard of the PC: You have to insert in the corresponding fields the usernameand passwordyou have as user of the SYRMEP EVC and then to select the option: EVCLOGON in the field Log on to:.

At this point you will see the usual desktop of the PC when the administrator is connected, but you will be logged on to the EVC. The PC for the data acquisition has been connected towards a crossing operation to the EVSYRM PC located on the desk just beyond you. This PC is a server and constitutes your link with the EVC and the crossing operation will speed up the data transfer from the acquisition PC to EVSYRM.

The tomographic data you will acquire during your experiment can be directly saved on EVSYRM. This operation can be carried out by following the items 1)-4) from the PSYRM5 PC:

1) Right click on My Network Places;

2) Select in the opened menu the option Map network drive;

3) At this point select S: on the drive letter selection (see the panel in the previous figure) and enter \\evsyrm\store in the folder field. Now you can see in the list of connected driver Store on evsyrm(S): and a drive called username on evsyrm(Z):;

4) Now you can start your experiment and save the tomographic data in the folderS:\projects\foo, where foo is the projectyou previously created on the EVC for the ongoing experiment.

Data Elaboration

Once you are a registered user and you are leader or member of a project created in the EVC, you can elaborate the data stored if the folder corresponding to the project from ELETTRA or from home.

Now click on the Applications link in the page in order to connect you to the EVSYRM workstation. The following page will open.

Put the username and password you had chosen to register you as EVC user in the corresponding fields. Then you will see the desktop of the EVSYRM PC only containing your projects and files.

Click on the right button of the mouse and select on the opened menu New terminal.

In the white window where you have the prompt type the command tomo. This command will compile and run the tomographic reconstruction program. For the use of the reconstruction program please refer you to the Beamline user guide you can find in the web page of the SYRMEP beamline.

Data Downloading and/or Storage

Once you are a registered user and you are leader or member of a project created in the EVC, you can download data stored in your project from ELETTRA or from home.

If you are on ELETTRA you can use some protocols, like sftp (you can download a client from and connect to evsyrm.elettra.trieste.it using your account’s name and password) or SAMBA (simply type \\esyrm\store on Run dialog from start menu, if you are using Windows2000 or WindowsXP).

If you are at your home, you can use sftp, but you must connect with tera.elettra.trieste.it (using your login name and password).

The data can be also stored in a CD or DVD burning it directly with EVSYRM PC (on the experiment page you can select “DataArchiver”). If you are outside ELETTRA you should previously ask your local contact at ELETTRA to insert the needed CD/DVDs in the CD/DVD writer.
