How to post a successful job listing - Would you want to apply after reading your post?

1)Use the Job Title to describe your opportunity, e.g. “Veterinarian for central IL Humane Society” or “Licensed Veterinary Technician for Florida Pan Handle Mixed Practice”.

  • Avoid using “Associate Veterinarian” as some people think the opening is for an assistant. “Veterinarian” is better.

2)Read through a variety of job listings on the Career Center to get an idea of what makes an interesting posting and incorporate those ideas into your listing.

3)The Employer Information/ Profile section is entered when you first set up your account. This section will accompany all job postings. It is a quickbut thorough overview of your organization. Your goal should be to “sell” your organization to the candidates! You can edit this section at any time.

In this section:

  • Describe the philosophy and mission of the organization and staff and that all members of the team are treated fairly and with respect.
  • Describe the meaningful work that your organization does for your community and your profession.
  • Include details of your location that would be of interest to the candidate and their family. Include information about local schools, recreational, cultural and athletic attractions and points of interest if you anticipate a candidate may move their family to accept your position.
  • Include your website address so people can get a preview of your business.

4)Youcan “Create a New Job” either as a Print with FREE Online Posting ad or an Online Posting ONLYad.

  • Print with FREE Online Posting is charged by the word.
  • The ONLINE portion has no word limit either with the print option or on its own.
  • For your online portion, use spaces to break up large blocks of information.

5)Make your job opportunity stand out over the others that candidates will read! Examples of what to include in your listing are:

  • Responsibilities and expectations of the position.
  • Core skills and desirable skills needed.
  • Years of experience.
  • The anticipated work schedule. Flexible schedules are particularly desirable so put that in if you have them.
  • Any equipment on siteor special procedures that are performed thatwould be of interest to a candidate.
  • Description of the clientele and staff.
  • Potential for professional skills development.
  • Future ownership or promotion opportunities.
  • Benefits and salary range.

6)Using an email contact in your ad may result in SPAM since everyone can see it! Avoid using an email contact. Applications will come to the email or URL you choose when the “Apply Now” button is clicked.

7)Proof-read your ad for accuracy and have someone else read it to check for errors in punctuation and grammar before posting.

8)Think like a candidate: Would you apply to your job after reading your post?

9)Update and revise the posting as often as needed.

Résumé Search and Search Agents

1)Call or fax your request to get validated for Résumé Search, which is included in the listing fee for the duration of your job listing.

2)Utilize the RésuméSearch Agent option to choose your search criteria and you will be notified of résumés that match your criteria that are in the database already and when a new user registers.
