Show your understanding by building a book report mobile.

Teachers use book reports to measure students' understanding of a text. Projects of this type can take many forms, from a standard written essay to an intricate artistic product. A simple and creative way to demonstrate your knowledge of a book is to create a book report mobile. Using a handful of inexpensive supplies and a little artistic skill, you can produce your own mobile book report to show that you comprehend what you have read.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Blank index cards
  • Coloring supplies
  • Hole punch
  • Wire hanger
  • String
  • Scissors
  1. 1Decorate an index card with the book's identifying information. Write the title on one side of the card. Write the author on the other. Decorate your card using coloring supplies.
  2. 2List the primary characters on another index card. On one side of the index card, write "Characters." On the other side, write the names of the primary characters, along with a brief description of each. Draw pictures of the primary characters on the card.
  3. 3Illustrate the setting on one index card by writing "Setting" on one side and drawing a picture of the story's setting on the other side. At the bottom of your picture, write a one-sentence description of this setting.
  4. 4Summarize the plot on one index card. Write "Plot" and one side and write a paragraph summary of the plot on the other. Decorate your plot card to make it aesthetically pleasing.
  5. 5Punch holes in the upper corners of your title and author card using a hole punch. Place each hole approximately ½ inch from the top and ½ inch in from the side.
  6. 6Using a hole punch, create a hole that is centered at the top of each remaining index card. Carefully center you hole to ensure that your cards hang properly and do not lean to one side.
  7. 7Suspend the first card you created, which holds the title on one side and the author on the other, from the top of your hanger. Use two small pieces of string and hang your card in the center of your hanger so that it hangs directly under the hook. This card should sit in the triangular center of the hanger once you have hung it.
  8. 8Hang your remaining index cards from the bottom of your hanger using lengths of string. Suspend the cards at various lengths by tying the string to the bottom of the hanger and tying the other end through the hole in the top of your card.
