SAO Statement(s) / Compton College Special Resource Center staff will provide workshops designed to enhance basic computer skills or students with disabilities. Students will be trained on basic computer skills modules that will support their overall educational readiness in a self-paced format. Students will also be exposed to assistive technology for additional resources to best address their educational limitations.

Target/Standard For
SAO / 50% of all SRC students who begin the self-paced skills enhancement workshop will complete the skills sheet by the end of each semester. The skills sheet consists of 12 tasks demonstrating proficiency.
Frequency/Timeline of Assessment / Assessment of student progress will be conducted monthly during the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters. The Student Services Advisor and counselor will follow-up with students each month to encourage, advise and trouble-shoot as needed or make referrals to the Adaptive Computer Technology Specialist if warranted. A tracking sheet for each student will be maintained with notes to be reviewed during monthly staff meetings to evaluate progress.

Basic Skills Spring 2017

Week 1 March 8th / MYECC
Student reviewed what Probation Warnings look like ( copy provided), Students searched for classes and located instructor permission add menu, located class schedule, Ed Plan , Fin Aid award letter and Fees due page / 8 students, 50 % of students do not have computer at home. One student had 72 unread emails. Same student had memory issues
with password in fall
workshops.
Week 2 March 15th / Into To Microsoft Word Ribbon
Students reviewed Font and Paragraph features of Home tab to format text. Insert tab reviewed to insert a picture. Layout Tab reviewed to change page orientation from portrait to landscape. Students practiced the skills reviewed / 6 students (3
Returning from WK 1) One returning student had ongoing issues with password
Week 3 March 29th / APA Formatting
Students were show the basics of how to use a Word APA template to begin a document. Editing the template (name, page number, etc.) was completed. They were shown an overview of how to copy an APA citation from an online library article to the citation page / 7 students (2 new students)
Week 4 April 6th / Email/ File Attachment
Using school webmail students were show how to open an email with attachments. They downloaded attachments using Google Chrome and unzipped them to their flash drive. A brief overview of Windows 10 desktop was done. / 4 students (all have attended a prior workshop)
Week 5 April 26 / Read and Write
Student showed how to use Screenshot reader with Etudes and Townsend Press. Student also showed how to use PDF Aloud Reader from a file on USB drive.
Finally Student showed how to use Toolbar Reader for a Word Document downloaded from etudes / 4 students (all have attended a prior workshop)
Week 6 May 10th / Review Microsoft Word Ribbon
Reviewed Week 2 skills / 1 student (had attended prior sessions)
