How to license the product deploying the ca.olf license file:

Dear Customer name>,

Please find below the instructions to license your product.

Instructions to deploy a ca.olf file:

1. Go to CA_LIC folder under the root directory of your system drive or

For 64 bit Windows machines: C:/Program Files x86/CA/Shared Components/CA_LIC

For 32 bit Windows machine: C:/ Program Files /CA/Shared Components/CA_LIC/.

For Linux/Unix machines: opt/CA/Shared Components/CA_LIC

2. Verify if there is an existing ca.olf file.

3. If there is an existing ca.olf file please use a text editor and copy/append the license contents of this new OLF file into the existing ca.olf file. You do not need to copy over the ID lines and the server/Daemon lines.

Copy lines starting with “Feature” through the end and append them to the bottom of the existing ca.olf file.

4. If there is NO existing ca.olf file, please copy this file there and rename it as ca.olf.

NOTE: The name of the ca.olf file is case sensitive. Please use lower case.

How to un-install the CA_LIC folder remove the Licensing Module:

Please find below the instructions to remove the licensing module.

Instructions to un-install the CA_LIC folder:

1. Stop all CA products and Services

2. Uninstall (using the lic98_uninstall.zip package)

a. Unzip this file in a different directory than CA_LIC

b. Run rmlicense.bat from a command prompt

c. Make sure that ca_lic folder and its content is removed by this uninstall

d. STOP if at the end of uninstall ca_lic folder is still there or if not empty

i. Backtrack the steps, perhaps step 1 need to be verified

How to re-license the product:

Dear Customer name>,

Please find below the instructions to re-license the product.

Instructions to remove a license key from the registry to re-license the product.

1. Go to Start -> Run -> Type Regedit

2. Expand HKEY_Local_machine -> Software -> Computer Associates -> License

-> Product -> Choose the folder with the Product Code (e.g. – 315C, 31BA) ->

3. Expand the sub-folder of the ‘Product Code folder’ and check if you have the product license key.

4. Note down the keycodes if you dont have it with you (Ignore if you don’t find the keycodes) ->

5. If you have the license key here, kindly delete the SUB-FOLDER ALONE ->

6. Re-add the license via the CALicnse.exe which is located under C:/ Program Files /CA/Shared Components/CA_LIC/.

How to run the License Patch:

Dear Customer name>,

Please find below the instructions to run the license patch.

Instructions to run a License Patch to re-create the LicenseModule:

1. Go to C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\CA_LIC folder (Sometimes CA_LIC folder is located directly under C: \ and if it is 64 bit machine It can be located under C:\Program Files(x86)\CA\SharedComponents\CA_LIC folder)

2. Rename the CA_LIC folder to CA_LIC_OLD

3. If CA_LIC fails to rename and generates the below error message then press Ctrl+Alt+Del and go Windows Task Manager and stop the Service LIC98Service.exe under Processes Tab.

4. If you are unable to find the LIC98Service.exce service under Processes tab then check the option Show Processes from all users and that will bring the lic98service.exe

5. After CA_LIC folder is renamed to CA_LIC_OLD then Execute the License Patch to generate a brand new CA_LIC Folder. Path to the patch is given below: https://support.ca.com/irj/portal/anonymous/phpsupcontent?contentID={861347B7-543B-4345-B8FB-E840A0B72BFF}

6. When you run the patch from IE or some other browser you see the below window where in you need to select Windows.

7. Scroll down to the bottom and select “ENGLISH” on the next window

8. Once you click on ENGLISH you will receive a pop up window to either Save or Open LIC98_WIN_ENG_1-9-05-00.zip.

9. Once you click on either Save or open it will download the file and a STANDALONE folder gets created.

10. Once the download is complete (and opened) it will open a Zip file with below options README.TXT BaseLicInst.exe Silent.exe

11. From the downloaded zip file run only the BaseLicInst.exe and it will run the license wizard

12. The wizard automatically runs and installs the patch. The window will be closed automatically

13. Go to respective path C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\ (Sometimes CA_LIC folder gets stored directly under C: \ and if it is 64 bit machine It gets stored under C:\Program Files(x86)\CA\SharedComponents\ folder)

14. You can see that a New CA_LIC folder created

15. Go to CALicnse.exe and you can see that you can successfully add the license and no buttons are grayed out on Help-> About -> License or ADD/ VIEW Licenses in the Arc serve Manager

Scenario : Customer sends too many MAC addresses for entitlement. Update issue:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for sending the required list of MAC addresses that is to be licensed with Erwin r8 keys. However, please note that your list exceeds entitlement. Based on the contract information we have for you, we can only generate X keys. Please indicate which of the MAC addresses should be given a corresponding key.

For all others, please provide us with an alternative contract proving entitlement.

If no such contract can be found, we will involve the CA Sales department to follow up on this request.

We confirm that based on the license certificate OL______you are entitled to permanent keys for Erwin r8.Please note that in order to generate the license keys for Erwin r8 we require the MAC address of the machine(s) on which the product is to be installed. Find attached instructions on how to retrieve the MAC address.
