How To Install Vmware on your Home Computer

The following instructions show how to install the vmware view client onto your home computer. A successful install will enable you to open your office workstation so that you can work remotely. You would not need Citrix

Note: Before you begin, do the following:

Log on to your home PC with your administrator account. (The one that allows you to add/remove applications).

Check to see if your PC is a 32 or 64 bit machine. Do this by right-clicking “My Computer” and then clicking “Properties” (My Computer is found by clicking the Windows key)

Check to see if your computer has an Intel CPU or AMD CPU - Do this by right-clicking “My Computer” and then clicking “Properties” (My Computer is found by clicking the Windows key). IF your PC has an Intel chip, please note the last section in these instructions.

In your internet browser, copy and paste the following link.

1)Choose to download the appropriate software depending on whether your home computer is a 32 or 64 bit machine. (This can be ascertained by right-clicking “My Computer” and then clicking “Properties”)

2)Click on the vmware view client to download it and choose to “Save File”

3)Find the saved file and double click on it to start the install.

4)A number of dialogue boxes will appear. Click through them to progress the installation.

Click“Run”

Click “Next”

Click “Next”

Accept the terms. Click “Next

Click “Next”

Click “Next”

Make sure the two check boxes are ticked and then Click “Next”

Click “Next”

Click “Install”

The installation will begin.

Click “Finish”

Click “Yes” to restart your computer

5)When you have restarted your computer, you will see the VMWare View Client icon. To connect onto your office workstation, double click the View Client.

6)Then, in the field for connection server, type in IP Address and then Click “Connect

7)Fill in your user name and password then click Login

8)Select your desktop pool and Click “Connect”

NOTE:

If your PC has an AMD processor, you will need to do the following.

Click on the down arrow to the right of the desktop pool name. Then hover over “Display Protocol” and then Click on “Microsoft RDP

Otherwise make sure it is on PCoIP
