A PowerPoint Game Created by Jeff Ertzberger

Instructions for all office versions prior to Office 2007

Overview: This game is designed for whole class participation. Participants are divided into teams or may work as individuals. For best results use an LCD projector or TV to display the game to students.

How to Play

1. You can divide your class into teams, or you can let each individual play. You can have up to four teams play the game.

2. Have your vocabulary, review test, or topical questions in your hand.

3. Open Valentine Arcade. Click on the “Slide Show Menu” at the top, and then choose “View Show”. This will begin your PowerPoint game.

4. If you see a Security Alert when starting the game – Choose Enable this Content.

5. Choose the board you wish to play (1-10). Try not to use one that you have used before, as students may remember where the points were hiding last time.

6. Before playing, ask students to select 4 boxes behind which they believe the points are located. (This will speed up the game and prevent students from taking “years” to decide which heart to look behind once they have gotten a correct answer.)

7. Each team or individual is asked a question. If they answer correctly, the students can pick one heart. The instructor will then click on that heart, if they find points then one those points are added to the teams score box at the bottom.

8. If a team finds an X behind a heart then their score goes back to zero and they lose all the points they have found up to that point.

9. Play continues until the instructor runs out of questions or all the hearts on the board have been revealed. At that point the team with the most stars is declared the winner.

10. If a teacher has more questions after a completed game, simply go back to the beginning of the game and choose a different board. There are 10 unique boards.

Note: If you are using a version of Microsoft Office prior to Office 2000 some of the functions in these games may not function properly. It is advised that you do your editing of the slides in the older version that you are using but use a PowerPoint viewer for actual game play. A link to the PowerPoint 2007 viewer is below:
