How to Crochet a Pair of Gloves

Byan eHow Contributor

When you think of knits and crochet, you probably think of warm clothes. You might have limited yourself to only crocheting hats and scarves, but it is actually pretty easy to crochet a glove. All you need is an easy pattern, like this one, to start with. Even if you're a beginner, you can crochet finger holes and gloves.

Difficulty:Moderate

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yarn
  • Size G crochet hook
  • Scissors
Make the Cuff
  1. 1

Chain 13 stitches to start. Then turn your piece and single crochet into the second stitch from your crochet hook.

  1. 2

Single crochet to the end of the row. Chain one, and turn.

  1. 3

Repeat Step 2 until your piece has 28 rows or until you're satisfied with the width of the cuff.

  1. 4

Tie off the piece, and use a tapestry needle to join the first chain with the last row, forming a tube.

Work on the Hand
  1. 1

Work in the round for the first four rows. Single crochet 34 stitches, evenly spaced, along on of the edges of your cuff.

  1. 2

Use unjoined rows for the next 10 rows. This will leave a thumb hole.

  1. 3

Join the 10th row, and work in the round, with joined rows, for 7 more rows.

  1. 4

Begin to form the fingers. After the 10th row, turn, and single crochet 13 stitches. Then chain 2 and skip the next 6. Single crochet to the end of the row, join, and turn. This will separate your pinky finger from the others.

  1. 5

Separate the pointer finger from the others during the next row. Chain 1 and single crochet 5. Chain 2. Then beginning across the glow, single crochet 5, and you're right back where you started.

Add Fingers
  1. 1

Finish your pointer finger by single crocheting in each of these 12 stitches. Complete 12 rows. In the 13th row, decrease the number of stitches from 12 to 6 by crocheting two stitches together. Tie off the end.

  1. 2

Work the middle finger. Start at the chain 2 that separates the pointer from the middle finger. (For the ring finger you will start at the chain between the middle and ring finger.) Chain 1, and then single crochet through the chain 2. Single crochet three along the base of the glove, and then chain 2. Single crochet three along the back of the glove. Complete 14 more rows. Decrease the number of stitches in the same way you did for Step 1, and tie off.

  1. 3

Complete the ring finger by following Step 2. Instead of 14 rows, however, you will only need 12.

  1. 4

Crochet the middle finger in the same way you did the middle and ring fingers. However, each row on the pinky finger will only require 10 stitches, and the final pinky finger will extend by 10 rows.

  1. 5

Start at the hole on the side of your glove to make the thumb. Single crochet up and down this edge, giving you 22 stitches. Decrease by 2 stitches for 5 rows by crocheting two together at the top edge of the thumb hole, nearest to the fingers. Then crochet 9 more rows of 12 stitches each. Tie off the yarn, and you're done.
