Online Encyclopedia or Dictionary

Often encyclopedias and dictionaries do not provide bylines (authors' names). When no byline is present, move the entry name to the front of the citation. Provide publication dates if present or specify (n.d.) if no date is present in the entry.

Citing Wikis (Wikipedia)

Please note that the APA Style Guide to Electronic References warns writers that wikis (like Wikipedia, for example) are collaborative projects that cannot guarantee the verifiability or expertise of their entries.

If there is no author use the corporate author (Pepsi, Tourism Nova Scotia, Google Images). If you got the image from

  • A BOOK, reference it as you would a quotation from a book
  • A JOURNAL, reference as you would a quotation from a journal
  • A WEB PAGE, reference it as you would a quotation from a web page

When citing a web site in the Reference List, provide as much as possible of the following information:

Author's name (if available).

Date of publication or update in parentheses (if available). If there is no date, use '(n.d)' instead.

Title or description of document.

Title of complete work (if relevant), in italics or underlined.

URL. If there is no author the title of the webpage is used in its place.
