HOW TO CAPTURE VIDEO

  1. Launch Adobe Premiere Pro and open your project.
  2. Plug in your camera to a power source, turn it to playback mode.
  3. Make sure your tape is in the camera and rewound to the time where you want to start capturing. (Use your time base).
  4. Locate the grey cord coming out of the fire wire (Ieee) port in the back of your machine. This is not a USB device.
  5. Plug the fire wire cord into the DV port on the camera
  6. (Say ‘take no action’ when device dialogue box appears).
  7. In premiere- go to FILE>CAPTURE>

8. See the capture window appear. You can control your camera from here- do not press buttons on the camera during capture.

9. Now, you ABSOLUTELY MUST MAKE THE FOLLOWING CHANGES IN YOUR CAPTURE WINDOW:

  • Go to settingstab and in Capture locations, VIDEO and AUDIO click on browse. Select my computer>storage E> video edit> your folder. Make sure video and audio are directed to go to the same folder in your video edit folder- DO NOT separate audio and video!!!! (You should select or create a capture folder within your storage E video folder for organization).

10. Now, find device controland click on DV DEVICE CONTROL>OPTIONS button. Choose timecode format of NON DROP-FRAME. Check status should say ‘online’. If it says offline, your camera is either not turned on or not plugged into firewire port. Then say okay.

11. Now you are ready to capture your footage. Carefully use the vcr playback controls inyour capture window- not on the camera.Even though you ARE NOT USING THE BUTTONS ON THE CAMERA, you still need to be careful about how quickly you stop, rewind and forward your video while capturing.

12. Click on :play, then click on: record. You should see your footage in the window. When you want to stop recording, press the record button again. A window will appear prompting you to title and save your clip. Always Title captured clips!!!Then click OK. If you do not do this, your footage will not be saved.

12. When you are done capturing each clip, and do a FILE>SAVE in Premiere. When doneturn off, unplug, and return the camera.

13. When you are back in Premiere, you should see your captured clips in the bin. Drag them to the timeline sequence to work on them.
