How to Add an Additional Check in Payroll

There are a few ways to add additional checks in a payroll. Here are two easy methods.

From the Quick Entry Screen:

You can add a check from the Quick Entry screen by going to the bottom of your list of employees and using the down arrow on your keyboard to get a blank line.

Then click in the EE Code field on the blank line and either enter an employee number or use the drop-down menu to choose an employee.

You will now have a new line on the screen for the added check and you can add hours or earnings as needed.

NOTE: This will create a check with all of the scheduled E/D’s this employee has normally. To delete scheduled E/D’s you will need to go to the Check Lines screen (detailed below).

From the Check Lines Screen:

From Quick Entry, double-click on an employee to get to the Check Lines screen.

NOTE: Be certain you are on the Check Lines screen (example above) before proceeding.

Click on the at the top of the screen to add another check. This will open the Payroll Expert window.

Choose the check type from the drop-down menu. For this example, we will use Regular.

Click . Choose the employee you need.

Click . Here you can pull in a Check Template if you would like. (Check Templates allow you to change the tax frequency and block certain deductions in one step. There is a separate guide on Check Templates available.)

Click . Choose whether or not you want to pay salary in the new check.

Choose whether or not you want to pay regular hours in the new check.

Now you will be back on the Check Lines screen for the new check you just created.

You can now customize this check. For example, if we want to tax the check using a monthly pay frequency and have 401k be the only deduction, here’s what to do:

First, you can delete the NY DBL check line by highlighting it and hitting CTRL-DELETE on your keyboard. Then click ok to confirm.

Next, go to the Tax Overrides tab, and change the Tax Frequency to Monthly.

Click on the to save and to update our servers.

Now you can go back to the Check Lines screen or the Quick Entry screen to enter the wages.
