How to access your UH server space in MAC OS

First of all, you should use the ITS supported software Fugu to access your account. You can download the appropriate copy of Fugu here:

More instructions on installing and using Fugu are here:

Once you have downloaded and installed Fugu, you can log in by typing

Connection: uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu

Username: [yourusername]

Port: [leave blank]

Directory: [leave blank]

Then, type in your password. If it asks you anything like “do you want to continue?” just say yes.

You should then see a window with two sides: the left side is the window to your files on the computer you are on; the right side is the window to your files on the UH server. Double-click the “public_html” folder to enter your internet file directory. Anything in this folder will be visible on the internet, so if you want to save private files (which you can do!) save them in a different folder on that first screen.

In order to download files, you click and drag the file you want from the right to the left.

In order to upload files, you click and drag the file you want from the left to the right.

How to make a new folder: Click in the area that you want the new folder to be in; go to the top of Fugu and click the “New Folder” button (shown left). It will say “New Directory Name” – enter the name of the folder that you want to create, and click the “create” button. The folder should then show up in your list of items!

How to set the permissions on files/folders: To set the permissions, hold the “control” button on the keyboard and click once on the file you want to set for (or right click, if you have that kind of mouse); an options screen will show up – click “Get Info.” You can also do this by clicking once on the file you want, then going to the top of the screen to the “SFTP” menu and selecting “Get Info” from there.

In the Info screen, you can then set the permissions by clicking the checkboxes you want, and hitting “Apply.” If you want it to be visible on the internet, check all the “Read” boxes.
