Wright Tops State 4-H Dairy Judging Contest for 2nd Year

Lora Wright judged her way to the top of the senior division of the Missouri State 4-H Dairy Judigng Contest for the second year in a row. The contest was held August 19th at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.

Wright, daughter of Larry and Jodi Wright of Verona,was high individual in Ayrshires, Holsteins, Jerseys and oral reasons and finished with a total of 392 points. Second high individula in the senior division was Bailey Groves of Billings. Groves, the daughter of Todd and Sheila Groves, moved up from the intermeidate division, which she topped in 2016. Groves was first in Guernseys, second in Ayrshires, and third in Jerseys. Third high individual was Blake Wright of Verona. Wright, the son of Larry and Jodi Wright, was second in Holsteins, and third in Ayrshires and oral reasons. Rounding out the top five were Grant Groves of Billings and Ellie Wantland of Niangua. Grant Groves was first in Brown Swiss, second in Guernseys, and third in Holsteins. Wantland was second in Jerseys and oral reasons.

Lila Wantland of Nianguawas the high individual in the intermediate division. Wantland was third in Brown Swiss.In second was Logan Archer of Falcon.Rounding out the top five were Kylie Scrivner of Ava, Whitney Yerina of Phillipsburg and Garrett Hageman of Mountain Grove.

Paxton Foster of Weaubleau was high individual in the junior division.Molly Archer of Falcon was second.Rounding ot the top five were Jasmine Gates of Cairo, Teagan Hardy of Steelville and Blake Gates of Cairo.

The contestants placed six classes and gave two sets of reasons. The top three individuals in each breed received cash prizes sponsored by the Missouri breed associations. The top ten individuals in each division received rosettes from the Missouri State Fair, and the top fourindividualsin each division received a plaque from the Missouri State Fair and supporters of the contest. Contestants, their families, and exhibitors who provided cattle for the event were the guests at a Junior Dairymen’s Barbeque sponsored by Midwest Dairy Association, Missouri State Fair, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, MFA, Dairy Farmers of America, and Hiland Dairy. The Missouri 4-H Dairy Judging Team receives support from FCS Financial, the Missouri Holstein Association and the Missouri Dairy Association in partnership with the Missouri 4-H Foundation, and thanks all their sponsors for their support.

The Missouri 4-H Dairy Judging Team will be competing this fall in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania at the All-American Youth Dairy Judging Contest, and at the National 4-H Dairy Judging Contest at World Dairy Expo, Madison, Wisconsin. The team is currently seeking additional sponsors to support their travel.
