Darwin’s Principles Project
How does an organism relate to Darwin’s principles?
- Choose a species in the Plantae or Animalia kingdom.
- Conduct extensive research, using at least 3 sources (at least one primary sourcefrom a scientific journal)on how the species relates to Darwin’s six principles. You are responsible for delivering the following information in yourPowerPoint video:
- What is your organismsscientific name using the binomial nomenclature system? Mention the kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus and species that your organism is a member of.
- Explain how your species relates to ALL six of Darwin’s principles:
- Overproduction
- Variation
- Competition
- Adaptation
- Natural Selection
- Speciation
- You will create a digital video using PowerPoint (like the Introduction Video and the Vocabulary Video we watched in class) to communicate this information to the rest of the class.
- Choose photographs, clip art, video clips and fun facts to include in your story and add in some music!
- Creativity and authenticity is required. These should be both fun and educational to create and I encourage you to make them as inventive as possible.
- There is no time requirement for your video presentation; however, there is good amount of information that you need to present. So, the projects should be about 2-4 minutes if done effectively.
- There is a list of organisms that you may want to select on the back of this page. You may choose one of these, or one that you come up with on your own; however, each student must choose a different organism.
