How do I use the media center?
- At 6:45 am, you may enter the media center and obtain a lunch pass (good for the entire week). During school hours, you’ll need a pass from your classroom teacher or administrator. You don’t need a pass to come after school and we stay open until 3:30.
- You may use the media center for personal study, class assignments and projects, sharing books, and after-school tutoring.
- During school hours, you will need to present your pass and sign in at the circulation desk, unless you’re with your entire class. Your teacher will have already “signed in” on our daily calendar.
- Backpacks, food, and beverages are not allowed in the media center, but you may store these items on the designated shelves. We make exceptions for water, however!
- You may bring your digital devices (laptops, iPads, e-readers, smart phones, etc.) to the media center and log into the student network according to Lake County School’s “Bring Your Own Device” policy. Download the Destiny Quest app for your Apple or Android device
How do I check out a book?
- You may browse the shelves and read a book or e-book without checking it out. To check out a physical book, simply bring it to the circulation desk and give your name and/or student ID number.
- To check out an e-book, you need an active Destiny account to log into Destiny Quest, where you will access the e-books in “Follett Shelf.”You may check out an e-book on your own, but you are limited to two e-books per check out period.
How long may I check out a book, and are there overdue fines?
- You may check out a book, physical or electronic, for two weeks, and you may renew a book twice, unless a hold has been placed on that title.
- Physical books have an overdue grace period of one day and thereafter, you are charged 5 cents per day, excluding weekends and holidays. E-books are not assessed overdue fines.
- Lost books must be either paid for In full, or replaced with an equivalent copy.
How do I locate resources for research and other class assignments?
- We link several databases and web sites from both our Destiny home page and the Mount Dora High Media Center web site. Check out the many creative and informational texts and software from these sites.
- To access the Ebscohost databases, type lakecounty (no spaces) as both the username and password.
- To access the Florida Electronic Library, you will need a Lake County Public Library card (it’s free and we’ll help you get a card, if you don’t already have one)
- We also provide websites and printed guides for citing your sources and creating and saving a “works cited” or bibliography of your research.
How can I be involved with the media center and how can I make my voice heard?
- We feature a book review blog on the MDH Media Center web site and invite you to share your opinions!
- A suggestion box is located on the circulation desk. Please make your voice heard!
