FAQs

  1. How do I get to Richmond Theatre?

The theatre is just 5minutes walk from Richmond Station which is 20 minutes from London Waterloo (SW trains), or 15 minutes on the District Line from Hammersmith or London Overground from North London.

If you’re arriving by car, approach by the A316 and there is free parking on Richmond Green and in the Old Deer Car Park after 6.30pm.

  1. Can I park near to the theatre?

Yes, there is limited free parking on Richmond Green next to the theatre, and also in the Old Deer Park after 6.30pm.

  1. Is there somewhere to eat nearby?

There’s a wealth of different restaurants in Richmond so you have plenty to choose from depending on your tastes! Our particular favourites are The Duke which is situated right next to the theatre on Duke Street, and Côte Bistro on Hill Street. Both offer excellent food, and The Duke even have a pre-theatre menu served between 5.30pm and 7pm so you’ll be finished in time for curtain up!

  1. Is there a cloakroom?

Although we do not have a cloakroom, if you have any large or bulky items with you talk to a member of our front of house staff who may be able to make arrangements to accommodate them.

  1. What is the dress code?

There is no dress code here at Richmond. Some of our patrons like to make a special occasion of their visit, and equally some prefer to wear casual clothes including trainers. We’ve even had people turn up in fancy dress for some shows like our annual Panto and The Rocky Horror Show!

  1. Can I bring a group?

Yes you can! In fact we encourage it with special group discounts. For most shows we have discounts for groups of 10+, and have particular offers for schools, PTAs and uniformed groups. For more information on group offers or to book, call the Groups Hotline on0844 871 7696.

  1. Do you offer any discounts?

We offer concessions for Senior Citizens, Under 18s and Students (£3 off Mon-Thu perfs and mats), as well as standby tickets available for £12 from one hour before the performance (excluding mats) for senior citizens, students, under 18s, unemployed people and members of theatre unions.

  1. Can I bring my children to the theatre?

Of course! We believe that theatre should be a shared experience for all the family and offer family tickets (for 4 people) which can provide massive savings. We often have children’s shows and productions which are family friendly, so to see what we have coming up visit our website:

  1. What time do the shows usually start and finish?

Matinees are at 2.30pm (on Weds and Sat), and most evening performances are at 7.30pm. Always check when you book though, as show times can vary for some productions. Also as the running time is different for every show, we often won’t know what time the show will finish until the week it is on. If you ask a member of Front of House when you arrive on the night, they may be able to give you an approximate time, and we sometimes have running times posted on the show pages on our website so you can check before the day of the show.

  1. What time should I aim to arrive at the theatre?

You should aim to arrive at the theatre at least 15minutes before the start time of the performance (check your tickets before the day!), however you can arrive earlier! We have 3 comfortable bars in which you can enjoy a pre-show drink and snacks are available at the kiosk in the foyer. You can also pre-order from a range of packages including a selection of canapés and sandwiches, savoury nibbles, and chocolates to share. Or if it is a special occasion we can even arrange a champagne reception with a celebratory cake on arrival! For more information on our packages call Keri Jenkins on 0208 332 4503, or email , and a full list of packages can be found in the back of our brochure.

  1. If I cannot use my tickets, can I exchange them or get a refund? Is it possible to re-sell my tickets?

Tickets will only be refunded if a show is cancelled. Tickets may be exchanged for 10% of the ticket cost for an alternative performance of the same show only (provided the ticket you wish to exchange is not for a performance in the past). Tickets for re-sale need to be sent or handed in to the venue Box Office in order to be re-sold. Returned tickets may be resold at the discretion of the Box Office and only once the performance is completely sold out. A 10% cancellation fee will apply. We ask for the original ticket to be with us at the time of re-sale in order to avoid double bookings.

  1. What happens if I am running late?

Most shows will have a call which means any latecomers may quietly enter the auditorium after the first 5 or 10minutes, although you may be asked to sit at the back for the first half before taking your booked seats at the interval. If you are late for any reason and have to wait outside for the first few minutes of the show there are screens in the foyer for you to watch what you’re missing at the start.

  1. What is the restoration levy for?

£1 from each ticket goes to Richmond Theatre’s Restoration Fund (£1.25 for our annual panto). This money goes towards maintaining our listed building and making important improvements. Projects including the refurbishment of the Stalls Bar and the Norman Fenner room, and the replacement of seats in the Stalls have been funded by the Richmond Theatre Restoration Fund, so your ticket levy is helping us to make our theatre the best it can be for your visit.

  1. Do you have flat access for wheelchair users?

Yes, there is a side door to the left of the main entrance with a doorbell which one of the ushers attends to, that has flat access to the Stalls, Stalls Bar and also a disabled toilet, so wheelchair users can get straight through to their seats.

  1. How much do programmes cost?

They usually cost about £3 although this may vary depending on the show.

  1. Do you take cards? If not where is the nearest cash point?

We do accept cards, although as with any technology being used by up to 800 people in an evening our card machines can sometimes be a bit temperamental. Should the worst happen during your visit there are several cash points within a few minutes from the theatre – there is both an Abbey and a Nationwide on the corner of George Street.
