Art Perceptions of Design
Artwork 1: American Gothic by Grant Wood

Grant Wood uses strong vertical lines in this art in order to elongate the features of the people.
I would use this piece of artwork as the focal point in a room that may have low ceilings in order to give the effect of a taller ceiling.
Artwork 2: The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali

Salvador Dali uses a wide open landscape to give the illusion of space and time. The melting clocks represent softness. The curved lines of the clocks represent softness. Soft, curved lines are predominant in nature. I would use this art in a room to add to the fluidity of a room. It could be the focal piece, but does not have to be. It would mix well with like artwork and furnishings. I would match it in a room with soft, muted colors
