Founded in 1968, SPACE is one of the most established artist studio organisations in London. In addition to providing studios for 700 artists across the city, SPACE is an Arts Council National Portfolio organization and operates a number of critically acclaimed programing activities, which actively engage with a diversity of publics across two high profile East London venues. A core part of this activity is generated by the SPACE Art + Technology programme and residency schemes.
This is an exciting time to join SPACE’s Art + Technology team with the growing reputation of the White Building project located on the threshold of the emergent Olympicopolis in Hackney Wick.
We are looking for an outgoing, organised, publically engaged individual. The role of Assistant Producer is hands-on and often involves working evenings, weekends and as part of a team. The Assistant Producer must be able to communicate clear levels of support to artists and creative practitioners as well as being able to complete a wide range of activities requiring clear communication, excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. They must work well under pressure, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the Art + Technology programme. They must be aware of the logistical requirements of a public programme and adhere to the relevant security and health and safety policies.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

PRODUCTION & DELIVERY

  • Organise logistical support for public programming, including procuring and maintaining technical equipment.
  • Act as the main point of contact for logistical support for all White Building public programming and residencies, including tenant events.
  • Organise efficientset-up and dismantling of events and clearing the venue efficiently.

OPERATIONS

  • To support theArt + Technology Programme Managerwith administrative tasks and maintain data and filing systems, updating budget spreadsheets, collating purchase orders, invoices and charge sheets as required.
  • Responsible for induction of trainers and workshop facilitators, ensuring all relevant paper work is completed.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships and clear communication channels with artists, partners, promoters, and all SPACE departments to exceed expectations of service delivery.
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Art + Technology Programme Manager.

COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING

  • Send all marketing material aligned with Art + Technology programme to SPACE Communications Manager in order to meet marketing deadlines, ensuring that ticket pricing structures have been approved and tested.
  • As allocated, collate required content and upload to social media and website and correspond with press partners.

ARTIST LIASON/SUPPORT

  • Assistant Producer will be the first point of contact for logistical issues around the programme and will deal communications in a helpful manner, ensuring that information, questions and problems are dealt with accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Provide an effective and clear levelof assistance to artists, colleagues, audiences, technicians, producers and programme participants as required.
  • Attend all public programme activity in the role of assistant producer and artist liaison to support the Art + Technology Programme Manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Skills and experience required:

Essential:

  • Experience in coordinating technical set-up and installation build of art exhibitions and public events - including talks and performances – and delivering on time and within budget.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to prioritise workload.
  • Experience of working directly with creative people in a supportive role whilst managing their expectations.
  • Excellent practical experience of using social media and updating simpleweb content.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with internal and external individualsat all levels.
  • Excellent administration skills, with a methodical approach and attention to detail.
  • Good time management skills and proven ability to work to, meet and ensure others meet deadlines.
  • Proficient use of MS Office packages, including databases.
  • A flexible and collaborative approach.
  • Demonstrable strong interest in the art forms represented in SPACE’s Art + Technology Programme.

DESIRABLE

  • Technical support training.
  • Industry contacts with carpenters, technicians and A/V specialists and a good understanding of working with limited budgets and means.
  • Experience of working in an arts or media organisation in the role of artist liaison and / or assistant producer.
  • Experience of working with organisational financial processes and updating expenditure on budget spreadsheets, raising purchase orders, processing invoices etc.
