Rules & Regulations

  1. All participants must be in possession of a valid Tidal Water fishing licence and abide by the Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Guide. The Nanaimo Harbour Patrol, Department of Fisheries & Oceans, and the RCMP may be present during this event.
  2. Fishing is restricted to the area between a line from Dionisio Point (Ladysmith/Chemainus Area) and Columbia Beach (French Creek/Qualicum Beach Area).
  3. The fishing derby runs from 5:00am Saturday, May 14th to Sunday, May 15th at 12pm. Only Salmon caught will be entered into the derby.
  4. Weigh-ins will be done only at the Brechin Boat Launch in Nanaimo, and participants must be “on the dock” with their catch and entry ticket by 9pm on Saturday, May 14th and by 12:30pm Sunday, May 15th. In the event of a tie the earliest weigh-in time will decide the winner.
  5. Participants must purchase their entry ticket prior to fishing($30).
  6. Tickets will not be available for purchase after the start of the fishing derby.
  7. All boat occupants must be entered in the derby or the fish will not be entered for Largest Salmon or Hidden Weight Prize.
  8. Each contestant, upon registering to compete in the derby, agrees to hold the sponsors, organizers, their agents and employess harmless from liability for any injuries and/or damages suffered during or after the period of the contest.
  9. All decisions by Derby officials will be final.
  10. Prizes will be awarded as follows (participants get choice of prizes):

-Largest Salmon

-2nd Largest Salmon

-3rd Largest Salmon

-Highest Overall Aggregate on May 14th

-Highest Overall Aggregate on May 15th

-4th Largest Salmon & onward until prizes are exhausted

-Hidden Weight Fish has a chance at winning $10,000

***NOTE THERE ARE NO CASH PRIZES FOR BIGGEST FISH AT THIS TIME, BUT THIS COULD CHANGE***

  1. Merchandise prizes donated by area businesses will be awarded for novelty categories and hidden weights. Also, only those with derby entry tickets on Sundaywill be eligible for door prizes if there are prizes left after Salmon entries are awarded.
  2. Prizes not claimed by May 31st will become the property of the Serauxmen Service Club, and to be reused for other Serauxmen events.
  3. By purchasing an Inaugural Serauxmen Salmon Derby ticket the entrant agrees to comply with all the above.
