Cross-Curricular Literacy and the O.S.S.L.T. at KCSS

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) will be written onApril 11, 2013. The students who will be writing this test are currently in grade 10 or are others who have not yet completed this graduation requirement. The OSSLT is a provincial test of literacy (reading and writing) skills students have acquired by Grade 10. It is based on the literacy skills expected in The Ontario Curriculum across all subject areas up to the end of Grade 9.
The following link leads to our moodle page which contains many resources for practice . Parents may login with their child’s school username and password and find the course called “KCSS Literacy Learning”. The page has numerous resources including: notes, tips and practice quizzes. For support with the use of this resource, please contact our literacy teachers, Ms. Kofalvi and Ms. Georganas.
In addition to these school supports parents may be interested in examining released test items directly from EQAO. These materials can be found at the following website:
Students have been receiving ongoing support in literacy throughout the school year and will have additional opportunities to get ready through explicit instruction throughout the days leading up to the test. There will also be an assembly on March 25th. in order to ensure students are familiar with the test requirements and types of tasks they will encounter on the test. Parents may also access a student preparation guide on the EQAO site:
