Task: Order Lottery tickets
Purpose: Students will:
1. Read a ticket order form. Fill in personal information.
2. Order tickets and write out a cheque.
3. Read the prizes in the
Contest.
Materials:Worksheets, calculator, blank cheques.

Time: 20 to 30 minutes / Method: Warm-up Activity
Teacher asks students if their children’s school has fund-raising events. Teacher asks why do schools or organizations do this.
Introduction: Fund-raising events
Schools and organizations often need money to build new classes or departments. Often the city or government can’t give them any money. So they ask the people in the city to help them raise money. Fund-raising events help to bring in money and at the same time can give back to the people helping them.
A Hospital Lottery is usually raising money to add new departments or programs for their patients. The New Landing” General Hospital Lottery is raising money to build a “newborn care” wing. It hopes to raise over 5 Million dollars and be able to give away some prizes.
SkillBuilding:
Teacher will explain that buying a 3 pack of tickets is more economical than buying single tickets. Students complete the form and write a cheque.
Reading Text:
Students read the list of prizes and answer the question worksheet. Correction takes place.
Follow Up:Teacher has the students look in their local newspapers to see if large organizations are raising funds in a similar fashion. Have a groupdiscussion.
Debrief/Transfer: Have students bought tickets,
chocolates or other products in order to help people or
groups raise money? Share and compare experiences.
