HOPE (acronym of the Standing Committee of the Hospitals of the European Union) is made up of national hospital associations and representatives from the national health systems of the Member States of the European Union. As an association, its mission is to promote improvements in the health of citizens throughout the countries of the EU, and a uniformly high standard of hospital care throughout the EU. HOPE aims to foster efficiency, effectiveness and humanity in the organisation and operation of hospital services and of the health systems within which they function.

HOPE has been involved in the Amsterdam Declaration and fully endorses it. The strong elements that can be pointed out are first of all that it shows the existence and the strong involvement of hospitals. Then it is a proof if necessary of the complexity of the healthcare sector. Patients are no theoretical consumers but human beings with their culture and creeds. This is particularly important in a context of a growing market oriented ideology. Concerning the integration of the results, HOPE will help for example by inviting a MFH speaker to the major patient safety conference next April. HOPE will also link it with other European projects relating to patient mobility: Marquis, Europe for Patients, Simpatie…
