Dear Parents,

The oceanography class is planning a camping trip to the coast on Wednesday, Oct 12th through Friday, Oct 14th. This will be an excellent chance for students to get hands on experience with marine biology and coastal ecology.

The students will travel to South Beach State Park where we will be camping for two nights.

At that time, we will review the details of the trip. Transportation is by a combination of school district vans and parent transport. We need a minimum of 5 parents to drive out and chaperone.

All students will be on their best behavior while on this trip. Any students disrupting the activities will be sent home with a teacher or parent. If we need to communicate, we will carry cell phones and be sticking to the stated itinerary. Swimming will not be allowed. Students have been advised of the danger of “sneaker waves” and will listen to and follow directions of teachers and parent supervisors at all times. This will ensure a fun and safe trip for everyone.

Qualifications:

Participation on this trip is a privilege. Any student who is struggling with academics or behavior at HRMS will be notified in advance that they may be ineligible to go. Any student who receives one or more danger of failure notices on Wed Oct1st will be ineligible for the trip if improvements cannot be made in time. One or more office referrals for any class will also mean you miss the trip depending on the nature and severity of the referral.

I give my son/daughter permission to attend the oceanography overnight field trip.
