GENERAL INFORMATION:

Welcome to Biology. I am looking forward to having you this year. Biology can be a difficult class. To help you be successful, we will work together using strategies that will help you take good notes, and help you learn how to study. By using these strategies, you will be able to take good notes and in order to foster a deeper understanding of biological principles.

HELP SESSIONS:

  • InteractiveNotebook (one that will accommodate handouts)

  • Index cards
  • Glue sticks
  • Ziploc bags

GOALS:

  • Provide a study of the basic concepts of biology in order to prepare for the EOC and to prepare for future biology science classes.

HOMEWORK POLICY:

Homework is essential to mastering Biology. Some homework will require research.

It will be checked regularly. Grading of homework will consist of one of the following:

Checked to see if homework was completed. Grade will be based upon percent completed.

  • A random selection of homework problems will be graded for accuracy.

CLASSROOM RULES:

  • Obey all lab safety guidelines.
  • Follow guidelines of student handbook.
  • Exhibit behaviors and attitudes that reinforce the learning environment.
  • Respect others and their property.
  • Follow classroom procedures when using supplies, sharpening pencils, moving to and from the lab, and submitting work.
  • Materials (text, notebook, agenda, and pencils) are required everyday.
  • Use restroom before or after class.

ABSENCES:

  • When absent from class or lab, you are responsible for all missed assignments.
  • If an assignment is due the day you are absent, you will turn it in the day you return to class.
  • If you are absent on the day of a test or quiz, you will take the test the day you return to school.
  • Make-up tests will be more difficult.
  • If you fail to make-up missed assignments or tests, a zero will be issued.
  • Information learned from labs will be included on the chapter tests.
  • Labs will need to be made-up

LATE ASSIGNMENTS:

Assignments are to be turned in on time.

The following grading policy will be used for late assignments:

1 day late – ½ credit

2 days late – ¼ credit

3 days late – no credit

TARDY POLICY:

Policy in the Student Handbook will be followed

GENERAL INFORMATION:

  • Hall passes will be issued after note taking and/or labs. When you are not in class your progress in hindered.
  • A progress report will be issued twice each nine weeks. It is to be returned with a parent’s/guardian’s signature for bonus points.

DISCIPLINE PROCEDURE: PBIS discipline procedure will be followed.
