Research:
1. Select a topic that we learned about 1st Quarter from the list above. If you have a different idea, see Ms. Stark for approval before researching-it must relate to topics that we learned about 1st Quarter.
2. Do research to find a current article on the topic you chose, not more than 5 years old. It must be from a reputable source. No Wikipedia!
3. Print out your article, with author and website included.
4. Bring the printout in to Ms. Stark. You will need to get it approved by Ms. Stark before you begin your article review. Only 1 student will be approved per article. So the sooner you get yours approved, the less chance that someone else has already brought it in. If your article has already been selected by another student, you will have to select another article.
5. After your article has been approved, begin your review.
What to put in your review:
1. Summarize the article in your own words so that anyone reading your review would know what the article is claiming or reporting.
2. Discuss whether the article was written to inform its readers or whether it is a persuasive article. Is it fact based or opinion based? What makes you think it is persuasive or informative? Cite specific examples.
3. Explain how this article relates to what we have learned in geoscience so far this year.
4. Conclude your review with your thoughts on the article. Ex. Why did you choose this article to review? How could the author have made the article better? What questions do you now have on the subject? If it was a persuasive article, do you now believe what the author was telling you? Etc.
5. On the due date above, you need to bring in your article, along with your review of the article.
