Homework

Given on Friday 7th October

Due in – Wednesday 19th October

In year 5, homework is differentiated. Your child will be told which section they should do. Please check with the class teacher if they are unsure.

Literacy:

These common words are being spelt incorrectly. Please learn them (using look, cover, say, write, check) and write each one in a sentence.

different opened something anything something happened sticking against

luckily stopped enough straight

DO NOT FORGET: marvellous, shoulder, lightning, appreciate, especially, community

Super Challenge: Can you write a story that uses every one of these words? Please underline or highlight the words you have used. The story can be about anything you wish!

Reading:

Please let us know if you have read a good book lately and you think it might be a ‘good read’ for someone else in our class. Perhaps you have an author to recommend? We would love to display your reviews and recommendations in our class book corners!

Numeracy:

For all – We have been practising reading large numbers.

For example:

123,456 = one hundred and twenty-three thousand, four hundred and

fifty six

Practise these with someone at home. Say them – write them.

45,600 23,230 78, 982 80, 250

123,456 245,540 710, 654 205, 394

2,425, 650 1,234,500 5,200, 650 4,305, 201

Division

You have been given a page of division calculations.

Can you work out the answers using the bus stop method?

Sheet one will have calculations with no remainders

Sheet two may have calculations that leave a remainder.

Extra challenge – Can you work out the answers to these problems?

Challenge 1:

Follow the clues to find out what colour each shape is!

1.  Red is not next to grey.

2.  Blue is between white and grey.

3.  Green is not a square

4.  Blue is on the right of pink.

Challenge 2:

Two boys and two girls can play tennis.

Ali said: “I will only play if Holly plays.”

Holly said: “I won’t play if Ben is playing.”

Ben said: “I won’t play if Luke or Laura plays.”

Luke said: “I will only play if Zoe plays.”

Zoe said: “I don’t mind who I play with.”

Which two boys and which two girls play tennis?

Creative Homework

As I am sure you know, we have been learning about space this term. Your child has learnt a lot about the planets in our Solar System. This term’s creative homework is to make a planet of your choice. Try to think outside the box – what could you make it out of? Could you challenge yourself to create the entire Solar System? Could you use recycled materials? How big or small will your planet be? Could you ask someone at home to help you? Would you rather create an imaginative, fictional planet of your own – draw it and write about it. You could even add an alien species!

The due in date for the creative homework is Friday 25th November.
