Parent Information

Parents,

Last week, we began our Weather Unit. Students are extremely excited about the opportunities they will have to create models of specific weather patterns that we see around the world. Last week, I sent home a notice talking about these mini projects that we are doing IN CLASS. We are asking for students to collect some items that they have, AT HOME, to help them create these models. Students should not be requesting to go out and buy anything. It should be things that they can find around the house.

This week, we will continue to chart and make predictions about weather. The students are enjoying researching different weather around the world. We are making observations about patterns that we see and differences in weather based on location. We will begin to learn about Extreme Weather, this week. Students will work in groups to create Extreme Weather scenes on one of our classroom bulletin boards.

Multiplication Facts: Many students have moved up in levels. Please continue to study at home.

Homework: Since Testing is starting next week, we will be taking a break from daily homework. In an effort to help students be rested and have a clear mind, I will have students finish their math sheets in class, and we will not be doing weekly spelling lists. Weekly blogs will be open for students that wish to free write. It will NOT be mandatory. I highly encourage students to read, daily, for continued practice and pleasure.

Testing Reminder:

Change in Testing Calendar: We are scheduled to take our State Tests on May 8th, 9th, 10th and 15th-25th. Please note that the 10th was added to our schedule. Please try not to make appointments or vacations during this time. Testing will be finished by 12:00 each day. The afternoons are a better time for appointments. Please note that there may be changes to our schedule based on scheduling needs that may arise. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Have a great week,

Mrs. Hewitson
