Parent Information

Parents,

I hope that you had a terrific holiday. Before we went on Thanksgiving break, we wrapped up our unit on Animals and their adaptations. The students worked really hard on creating projects that represented an animal within a foreign environment. They were asked to give their animal new adaptations that would help them live in their new environment. The students did an excellent job. Many of them made dioramas. Some decided to make posters. Each project demonstrated their understanding of adapting to survive. The students’ have been graded on their projects, and their rubrics will be coming home in their assessment envelopes. In math, we wrapped up chapter 5 (multiplication) and are moving on to division. Please note, we will continue to review multiplication strategies to help students pass their times tests. This week we will begin our new unit on “How people express themselves and their culture through different ways). We will explore holidays around the world, art and literature from different cultures. Along with this unit, we will explore poetry and figurative language.

Multicultural Demonstrations: I am looking for a couple of parents that would like to share their culture with our class. If you are from another country, and would be willing to come in to speak to our class about the traditional clothing, food, and customs of your culture, we would be excited to have you. Please email me or come in to chat.

We are still in need of the following items: tissues and pencils. Thank you to those that have sent in items to share with our class.

Looking Ahead:

November 28th – December 9th: Holiday Canned Food Drive

December 15th- Grinch Day (be on the lookout for a flyer regarding our Grinch Day activities).

Have a great week,

Mrs. Hewitson
