Announcements– any resources that are being piloted will be announced here, all subscribers would have access to the resources, on a limited time basis.

ed1stop Feature– Educational Websites that are based on monthly topics. Also teacher created web-based lessons using the resources in ed1stop are highlighted.

Cyber-bullying and Digital Citizenship – Quick links to valuable educational resources to support two very critical topics that all teachers need to be aware of.

Common Core Tab

The Common Core State Standards include many references to the use of technology, including the Internet and multimedia. Technology is one of the major shifts in the CCSS. The Digital Common Core tool is a work in progress and provides key standards where the use of technology is specifically addressed. The tool connects to online resources that help meet that standard, resources are both free and subscription based.

Curriculum Support Tab / School Help Tab (Student side)

Discovery Streaming – K-12 Video-on-Demand service with over 9,400 full videos, plus 90,000 other types of media formats, audio, music, newsreels, images, articles, timelines, and learning guides. Requires the following plug-ins: Windows Media Play, QuickTime Player, Flash and PDF reader.

BrainPOP Combo Plus ESL – BrainPOP 900+ Flash-animated movies in BrainPOP illustrating Math, English, Science, Health, Technology and Social Studies for K-8 users. BrainPOP also has a variety of support materials including Activities, Graphic Organizers, Vocabulary worksheets, quizzes, and informational text. To access BrainPOP in Spanish use the toggle button located at the bottom of the portlet.

BrainPOP Jr. is designed for K-3 students or struggling readers and has flash animated movies in 7 subject areas.

BrainPOP ESL – Levels 1-3, with 6 units for each level. Also includes lesson guides and word lists for each unit. Students can also practice their speech by using the built in recorder, so they can hear how they sound (must have an internal mic or an external mic for recording).

TumbleBooks – from the Contra Costa County Library. Enter in your library card information and ed1stop will save it in the channel and then you will have access to content paid for by the County Library including Tumblebooks, a digital library of fiction and non-fiction books.

Project Help Tab – Licensed or Free resources for teachers students to use in Projects, and Model Projects developed for student use by Teachers.

AP Image – The only “Primary Source” resource in ed1stop that delivers new content on a daily basis from the Associated Press. Includes photos, audio files, and text from AP newswires. Also includes a Historical Photo archive that dates back to the late 1800’s, artwork from the American Revolution, and photographs from the public domain.

Soundzabound – The only Royalty Free music library that meets the licensing requirements needed for education. Soundzabound Music can be used in all student projects without fear of copyright infringement. Schools have access to Volume 1, 3,4, &5 plus 2wo new volumes were added for the 2013 school year, Media Music Madness and 21st Century Beats. All music is licensed for student work, including digital portfolios, school broadcasts systems and video production.

Teacher Created Materials – Primary Source Kits provided in a digital format with a variety of resources such as: photos, clipart, audio, Photo Cards with activity, and evaluating worksheets, with every historical kit. Each digital kit comes with a teacher guide and lesson ideas for using primary sources with students, to help them become critical thinkers. The collection is now searchable and has a new look and interface.

Teacher Cadre – Created by teachers for students.

Model projects ready for student use. Developed by county educators, including some Mt. Diablo teachers, who have built standards aligned, interactive lessons using the resources available in ed1stop. Projects have been developed in: Language Arts, History, Science, Mathematics, Technology and Miscellaneous topics.

Reference Tab

All the resources found under the Reference tab are free educational resources or provided by the Contra Costa County Library Services. Below are a few of the highlighted resources under this tab.

Calisphere – Is the California Digital Library of Primary Source documents from a variety of content providers, University of California, California Library, City Public Libraries, and California Museums, to name a few.

Wordsmyth – Online dictionary, teachers can create a free account and create vocabulary study guides, quizzes, and word puzzles. Quizzes can be done online or printed up. The illustrated dictionary was just recently released and can be used with young readers, non-readers, and English Learners.
