Home Learning Suggestions

As part of your topic on ‘A Kingdom United’, you are required to complete 5 pieces of home learning. You can select any activities from the list below or come up with your own ideas to suggest to your teacher. You can complete more during your free time on Friday afternoon if you wish.

English / Use any of the legends we have used, or find one of your own. Retell the story. You can use pictures to illustrate it. / Write an advert for one of the capital cities of Great Britain. Why should someone visit there? / Write a diary entry about the day in the life of Robin Hood. Use your imagination but keep it appropriate to the legend! / Write a fact file about one (or part) of the countries in Great Britain.
Maths / Design your own Anglo-Saxon settlement on squared paper, including co-ordinates, to find hidden artefacts. / Find out the distance from one place in Great Britain to another. Do this for 10 distances then order them from shortest to longest. / Find 8 key events in Anglo Saxon history from the work done in class. Record the dates as Roman numerals! / You have £50 to spend. Create your own shopping list of your favourite foods (remember to keep it healthy!). Work out if you are within budget or not.
Topic / Find evidence of Anglo-Saxon names for places (either locally or not). Create your own place name then illustrate and explain why you have chosen that name. / Research songs that represent different parts of Great Britain. List 5 and their artists (people who sang them). Write down the lyrics for the one you like best. / Create your own flag of one of the countries of Great Britain, using collage or other art materials. / Find out what ‘Brexit’ is, What were the arguments for or against it? Do you agree with the outcome?
Working Together / Create a model of an artefact that might have been discovered from Anglo-Saxon times. / Retell your favourite legend from class to your family. Do they know a legend they could tell you? Share your stories together and then decide which was the most enjoyable. Record this information as you wish. / Draw an artist’s impression of the giant Finn McCool. (You could include the Giant’s Causeway too) OR dress up as Finn and get a family member to take your photo acting out part of the story. / Imagine your home was a small kingdom in Great Britain. Design a flag that would represent it and the currency you wold use.
