POLICY TITLE: MEALS ON WHEELS CONTACT SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Position Title:Meals on Wheels Contact

Goal of Position:The Meals on Wheels Contact assists the Manager, Community Services or Team Leader in the management of a hot and/or frozen meal program

Time Commitment:Flexible

Contact within the Agency: The Manager, Community Services or Team Leader

Goals of the Meal Program:

  1. To provide nutritional meals for enhanced independence to individuals in their homes.
  2. To screen and recruit food sources to meet public health and nutritional standards ensuring high quality meal service to clients.
  3. To coordinate volunteer services to ensure delivery of the meals.
  4. To provide regular social contact and some monitoring of potential crisis situations.
  5. To evaluate program standards in order to compile and summarize results.

  • Good knowledge of the community.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Day to Day Operation of the Meal Program

  • Draft delivery schedule and review with the Manager, Community Services or Team Leader.
  • Prepare route sheet for each driver.
  • Monitor the delivery each day of the meals.
  • If operating a Frozen Meal Program, meet the delivery truck and ensure Frozen Meals are placed immediately in a freezer or given to volunteers for distribution.
  • Report any problems or concerns encountered in carrying out duties to the Manager, Community Services / Team Leader, or the main office staff of Home and Community Support Services of Grey Bruce.
  • Report any shortages or damages of meals to the Manager, Community Services / Team leader as soon as possible.
  • Refer all new clients requesting meals to the Manager, Community Services or family care Coordinator for assessment.

Recruitment/Training/Recognition of Volunteers

  • Assist Manager, Community Services / Team Leader in the recruitment and training of volunteers to deliver meals and Group Coordinators.
  • Schedule all new volunteers with a trained volunteer on their first day of delivery.
  • Assist Manager, Community Services / Team Leader in planning and implementation of annual recognition events for the MOW volunteers.

Record Keeping

  • Complete the monthly client report at the end of each month.
  • Submit monthly client report to the Food Source for their review and signature.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Accept the Rights & Responsibilities of all volunteers of Home and Community Support Services of Grey Bruce as set out in the orientation manual.
  • Assist the Manager, Community Services / Team Leader in the promotion of the meal program.
  • Attend training sessions offered by the agency.

Screening:All volunteers are required to complete a screening process including providing two personal references.
