HND COMPUTING PROJECT SPECIFICATIONAL FORM

Project Environment:

The system to be developed is to help maintain the different networks of the British Airline in different areas in a centralized network which can be accessed and maintained authorized staff under different authorization levels.

Objectives:

To produce a centralized network to help the management of the British Airways to access the system of other areas and information of different passengers and staff in one centralized network.

Project Aims:

The mains of the project are to enable the all the information needed about the staff of British Airways and passengers including different access levels for staff, and how computers in different areas can be connected together and share information, and to determine what level of access to be given for each user using the system according to his needs (for example the accounting department will have it own access level which can’t be accessed by other departments, but only accessible by the accounting staff).

Access to the internet and to the intranet will be also determined to users of different access level.

Analysis Stage: A full systems investigation will take place to determine what the system requirements are. A proposed model will be formulated, agreed and documented.

Design Stage: Determine how the system requirements (analysis) are to be met and achieved. Produce a design specification to provide the information necessary to build the system.

Implementation Stage: Determine the system functions to be implemented in the time scale remaining. Build the relevant systems functions by designing the network, cables, routers, and switches. Test network by following a test plan, produce and document relevant test plans and results.

Maintenance Stage: Produce the maintenance documentation which covers user guides. Keep a complete plan of the network for future enhancements.

Academic Aims:

To utilise the skills and knowledge gained in HND Computing (IT) modules, in particular, Applications in IT, Networking. Research and adopt a Systems Methodology for project developments. Gain new skills and knowledge in the area of networking.

Resources & Constraints: The choice of hardware a& software will be restricted to that available in the School of Computing. Conform to the university standards for coding & documentation.

Schedule:

It is intended that all stages of the project will be completed within the time scales of 26 weeks, the approximate schedule is – Analysis (8 weeks), Design (8 weeks), Implementation (10 weeks), and documentation to be completed over a 26 week period.
