HIV/AIDS Coordinator – FREEPORT TFM DRC

Project Description

The International SOS on behalf of Tenke Fungurume Mining is developing and will manage a HIV&AIDS Program to prevent HIV transmission among the work force and mitigate overall negative impacts of the diseases at the workplace.

Through collaborative approaches with the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other stakeholders, the program shall also strive to extend support to the host community, through the existing structures. This component of the Program shall only commence after full consolidation of the workplace program.

Reporting

  1. Functional Reporting: The incumbent will functionally report to the site Public Health Doctor, who shall give guidance on all technical matters pertaining to the program.
  1. Administrative Reporting: The incumbent will report to the Project Manager of International SOS at site.
  1. Interfacing: The incumbent will be expected to collaborate with International SOS Medical Advisors at site; particularly the Occupational Health Specialist; the TFM Environment, Social and Community Development Department, the CampManagement and external stakeholders such as the Zone Medical Office, among others

Job Description

Under the technical guidance and supervision of the Public Health Doctor at site, the HIV&AIDS Coordinator will perform the following tasks:

  • Ensure smooth coordination of all activities aimed at the prevention of HIV transmission and mitigation of its negative impacts among the workforce and the wider TFM business community. This shall cover among others, a structured health education program and health promotion; condom distribution and Voluntary Counseling and Testing; Treatment of opportunistic infections and eventually Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) and appropriate referrals.
  • Ensure proper and timely recording and reporting of all aspects of the Program; as well as collect lessons learned and best-practices on HIV/AIDS for wider dissemination.
  • To interface with other stakeholders (both internal and external) in planning on appropriate measures to address the HIV/AIDS at the workplace and the eventually the wider community
  • Identify training needs among Program staff and appraise capacity building needs for partners in the area of HIV/AIDS. Develop and deliver training modules and/or materials to address these needs.
  • Through innovative health promotion strategies, the incumbent shall advocate and champion for the mainstreaming and integration of HIV/AIDS prevention in all spheres of the TFM project, including its contractors
  • Ensure internal mainstreaming on HIV/AIDS through active sensitization of the TFM/Contractors management and staff on constraints and solutions for Program mainstreaming and integration.
  • Establish collaboration with partners on HIV/AIDS, in relation to the workplace and the community as well as participate in relevant coordination forums in the community
  • The incumbent shall represent Freeport/TFM in any HIV/AIDS related forum as requested
  • The incumbent shall perform any other duties pertaining to the TFM Public Health and Malaria Control Program as directed by the Public Health Doctor at site.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Medical Doctor degree plus a Public health Master degree, with public health programming experience
  • Three to five years of relevant experience relating to HIV/AIDS, particularly within the public sector and/or international development, and ARV prescription.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide technical guidance and operational support related to HIV/AIDS
  • Fluency in Swahili and working knowledge in English and/or French as well as excellent writing and communication skills

  • Innovation streak, adaptability, interpersonal understanding and high personal integrity
  • Willingness to stay in Fungurume, to travel frequently and work under difficult conditions

Duration of assignment:

Six months probation period, with possible renewal dependent on performance
