Compassion Fund
History of the Compassion Fund
The Campaign for Compassion was established in the 1980s by the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta to assist the ministries of Presbyterian congregations in the inner city of metro Atlanta. The Compassion Grant was also established to support innovative congregation-based projects in urban ministry, facility repair, and clergy/seminary student training for urban ministry.
Projects/ministries will be funded in the following priority:
Project/Program Priorities of the Compassion Fund (Maximum Request: $5000.00)
The project/program priorities for grants from the Compassion Fund are:
- Innovative congregation-based projects in urban ministry
- Program and/or facility repair assistance for urban congregations
- Clergy or seminary student training for urban ministry
- Other projects/programs related to urban churches and urban ministries
Compassion Fund grants are given to member churches of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta and approved fellowships. Other projects/programs can be recommended by churches in the Presbytery or by the Grants Committee. Typically, non-Presbyterian, ecumenical and community agencies are not funded by the Compassion Fund.
Geographic Priorities of the Compassion Fund
The geographic priorities for grants from the Compassion Fund for are:
Presbyterian Churches in the urban core of Atlanta and Decatur
Presbyterian Churches in Fulton and DeKalb Counties
Presbyterian Churches in Transitional Areas in all parts of the Presbytery affected by urban life.
