Ken Gehret-professional musician,has been performing publically,nearly forty years,primarily as a guitarist/violinist,in varied musical styles and situations.

History:Ken,--[age4],began playing piano ,by ear.

[age5],expressed interest in playing the drums.

[age6],(at his parents request),took up the accordian and played his first recital on it,that same year.

[age7],a.) started singing,(attempting to imitate the rock/pop vocal artists of the time).

b.) exhibited interest in playing saxophone.

c.) wanted to play guitar,(instead of accordian),upon observing a neighborhood friend,going off to

guitar lessons,(rather cheerfully).

[age9],became fascinated with classical violin.

[age10],(after hearing a recording of Jimmy Smith),proceeded to emulate the “jazz organ sound”,on his

mother’s electronic organ.

[age13],(entranced with hearing his brother Joe and friends playing music),commenced studying the guitar,

later followed by violin,banjo,mandolin,bass,etc.

[age14],played his first recording session,(a jingle,for a local radio program).

[age15],a.) was hired by a local music store,to teach various instruments,on a regular basis.

b.) also,was invited to “go on the road” full time,to promote a new line of instruments,by a nationally

known performer/clinician,however,declined offer,due to age and school concerns.

Teachers: Ken studied guitar with; a.) “Bro-Joe”,(Ken’s brother).

b.) Les Price,(a great teacher from the Reading,Pa. area).

c.) Joseph Mays,(a former student of Andre Segovia,and son of cellist Samuel Mays,

of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra).

Otherwise,Ken is largely,a self-taught musician.

Background: In addition to giving private lessons,Ken has also taught at; “The Lancaster Conservatory of Music”,

“Franklin and MarshallCollege”,various “string camps”,and has provided many “string clinics” across the

country.For many years,he has been a participant of “Music in the Schools”,from elementary through

university levels.Ken has led various bands and ensembles,and has been commissioned to: compose,

arrange,write charts,create movie scores,sound bites,jingles,commercials,and fully produce recordings,

for commercial and private enterprises,which include:

Ken’s creative experiences,stem from an insatiable curiosity for music,ranging from Bach,to Rock,which

include: Country,Bluegrass,Jazz,Classical,Rock,R&B,World,(Celtic,Latin,Indian,Klezmer,Oriental),reflecting

a significant influence on his own compositions.A few venues of which Ken has performed are:

“The Governor’s Mansion”(Harrisburg,Pa.),{on a regular basis}

“The Grand Ole Opry”(Nashville,Tenn.)

“Washington Square”(New York City)

“The Wheeling Jamboree”(Wheeling,W.Va.)

various festivals,universities and concert halls,too numerous to list.

Ken,is also pioneering his “one of a kind”,ten string guitar,(also,other modified instruments),regularly

performing at regional,and/or non-local venues.

Yet,another project is: “CD Rom,Real Video”,instructional videos,available from “Funky Seagull”,featuring

both,mandolin,and fiddle videos,conceived,narrated,and performed by Ken Gehret.
