Area: ecomatmobile - control systems for mobile vehicles

Subject: mobile trio - process and dialogue monitors

In almost all mobile machines, operators need powerful dialogue modules for operation and for the display of system messages. Depending on the size and complexity of the machine, they are fitted with text or full graphic displays and different operating fields. Due to the individual programming the user only sees the situation-dependent information which is relevant to him.

ifm electronic offers three versions of process and dialogue modules, covering all types of applications due to their different product features: the intelligent compact display PDM360 smart, the process and dialogue monitor PDM360 and the PDM360 dialogue monitor.

All units are made of a robust, sealed die-cast zinc housing with protection rating IP 67. They are therefore suited for surface mounting as well as for panel mounting outdoors and in cabins.

The three versions of the PDM360 product family are suitable for railway applications according to EN50155, have the CE marking and the e1 type approval of the German Federal Office for Motor Traffic. So, the process and dialogue monitors are also approved for public road traffic.

Intelligent compact display PDM360 smart

The intelligent compact display PDM360 smart has a monochrome backlit 2.5" display with a resolution of 128 x 64 pixels. This display can show text in seven different font sizes, as well as monochrome graphics (e.g. bar graphs, symbol bitmaps).

12 backlit function keys serve for entering of data and operation of the unit. Programming is done according to IEC 61131-3. This enables a clear and easy creation of the application software for the user.

Function libraries are available for the special functions of the display. The graphic elements are created and animated via the integrated visualisation of the programming system.

The device is connected via two universal M12 connectors. These ensure the voltage supply and connection to the communication interfaces CAN and RS-232.

As an option, the PDM360 smart is equipped with four additional inputs and outputs. To these, external switches or signal lamps may be connected, for example.

Process and dialogue monitor PDM360 compact

With the PDM360 compact, ifm electronic offers a compact process and dialogue monitor for operation and parameter setting of mobile machines.

The 3.8 inch display in portrait format has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. Three function keys and an encoder/pushbutton enable quick and easy operation.

Device connection is done via an M12 connector.

Furthermore, the PDM360 compact is equipped with an Ethernet interface for programming and communication. As an option, a real-time clock for logging of operational data as well as two inputs and two outputs are available for the user.

The data are exchanged with the connected controller and the decentralised inputs and outputs via a CAN interface to ISO 11898.

With the integrated operating system Embedded Linux the user can use another software platform. CoDeSys functions in the user program enable direct access to the operating system. So, further independent programs can be started, Linux commands (shell commands) and system calls can be executed directly and the file system can be accessed.

PDM360 dialogue monitor

With its powerful 32-bit controller and the flexible programming according to IEC 61131-3, the dialogue monitor PDM360 can be used in almost all applications.

The 5.7 inch graphics display has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. Depending on the version, it is available with FSTN monochrome or

TFT colour display.

Entering of data and operation is done using six function keys and an encoder.

The device is connected via a 19-pole M23 connector.

A CAN bus with CANopen protocol serves for communication. The integrated interfaces like Ethernet, USB, RS-232 and 2 x CAN together with the Linux operating system form a universal platform for further networking and communication with other CAN devices, networks or the PC. Due to the integrated PCMCIA slot a standardised and flexible interface is available for system expansion.
